iPhoneList
Windows File Explorer - like view of the iPhone file system.

Introduction

I want a fully functional GUI into the iPhone file system. This program is based on Manzana, Peter Dennis Bartok's C# class-library implementation of some of the work done by the #iphone-dev jailbreak and iphoneinterface teams.

In Progress

Binary PList conversion is almost complete. Keep checking. After that I go after the PNG conversion. All windows C# code (for now)

I'm considering moving the project to MONO or Lazarus / FreePascal for multi-OS operation...

Thoughts??

Details

Version 0.9.8.70:

  • Added full iPhoneLinks (Favorites menu) with ability to add new links - they are stored in Prefs.
  • Cleaned up prefs storage
  • Fixed File / Exit

Version 0.9.7.68:

  • iPhoneList now looks for iTunesMobileDevice.dll - you don't need to copy it.
  • Office 2003-like toolbars
  • Copy to deivce fixed
  • Configurable file / folder recognition
  • Performance improvements
  • Added the foundations for "Favorites"
  • User Preferences saved and reloaded
  • REALLY CLOSE to decoding binary plists

Current working Features: (v0.5.0 - r12)

  • Drop Files / Folders onto iPhone
  • Create Folders on iPhone
  • Delete files / folders from iPhone
  • Copy files / folders from iPhone to PC

Feature requests: 1.) Addition to preview images inside the text box where strings are now shown. 2.) Why not just include full path to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\iTunesMobileDevice.dll full path in your application code or perhaps it's more compatible to refer to it as %CommonProgramFiles?%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\iTunesMobileDevice.dll Or invoke your app with a binary "wrapper script" to do the same. Code can then fail with an error and present a dialog box for user to browse to that file if it doesn't seem to be in that exact location. 3.) Can you implement chmod of files by using "startservice" from iphoneinterface.exe ?

Thanks for the cool work already!

phedrick: 1. That's the plan. 2. Good idea, I'll figure out how to make it part of the install. 3. I want to. Badly.

A user should not have to load dropbear / ssh and have to be a unix / bsd hacker to enjoy the freedom of a jailbroke iPhone. That's what we're trying to accomplish here.

I realize that there are other efforts, and I will work with ANY application author thatwants to standardize the approach to a truly USER-FRIENDLY themeable, updatable, useable iPhone.

Great work. For now a binary plist editor is highly expected....

Looking forward to your next release.

any updates? I have a .pl script that does the conversion if you need.

Better yet, Can you do this the other way around? install an app on the iphone, activate/deactivate drive mode. View all harddrive content or just media folder. is this possible? it doesnt work with xbox360, but shows up on my computer as media drive (photos). 1.1.2 jailbroken.

Would it be at all possible to assign a drive letter to the iPhone with iPhoneList, so that it is usable from other applications that look for specific files on a given drive. Background: I would like to use this with the ml_ipod plugin for Winamp, to read and write the iTunes database on the phone.

Comment by vbdude, Dec 21, 2007

@ achim.bursian - This should be solved when firmware 1.1.3 comes out, as Apple will implement "Disk Mode" that is/was available on all previous iPods. All music-transfer programs (i.e., WinAmp??, Yamipod, etc.) should work normally when the new firmware comes out.

By the way, great program guys! I use iPhoneList all the time. Keep up the good work! :)

very nice work! as it works also for the iPod Touch, it'll be useful if the software detects it and hides the folders that are presents only in the iphone.

I think you should add a command prompt for the iphone so its easier to enter commands to create symlinks or to change permissions instead of using mobileterminal.
