RevirginizingTool
Using the re-virginizing tool

What it is

This tool is designed to rebuild your lock table in the seczone area to repair the damage done by the original anySIM 1.0x unlockers (and its cousins, including the hardware unlock). In essence, it re-virginizes your phone.

NOTE: DO NOT POWER OFF YOUR PHONE (or allow it to auto-lock...see Settings->General->Auto-Lock) WHILE THE RE-VIRGINIZER IS RUNNING. WAIT FOR IT TO COMPLETE! Wait for bbupdater to respond with "baseband unresponsive to pinging" when eliteloader.bin is the baseband.

Before the public release, this method was personally confirmed by Zibri who intentionally bricked an iPhone (wrong IMEI, Invalid SIM) then ran through this process....it successfully restored the device to a working condition. Since the release, it's also been confirmed by the many commenters below and on the forums. It works perfectly...just follow the guide or use the scripts.

What it isn't

The re-virginizer is neither intended for, nor necessarily required by, iPhones unlocked via IPSF. See TEASecZone for further explanation.

It's also not required by an iPhone that has never run anySIM 1.0x unlockers, or the hardware unlock. If your iPhone has seen none of these, or if it has only run anySIM 1.1x unlockers, then you don't need to become re-virginized. Again, see here for further details.

Scripts to make life easier

Click here for an automated script that will give the user the option to just backup the seczone or both backup and revirginize. This script also performs decent sanity checking prior to executing anything. NOTE: Requires BSD Subsystem be installed.
daurnimator has also written a script that automates this whole process. Please download it here.

Forum

See here for an iphone-elite discussion of this tool.

FAQ

I got "bricked" when I upgraded to 1.1.1 after using anySIM/iUnlock on 1.0.2. Will this allow me to safely upgrade to 1.1.1 without further problems?

Will this reset the NCK counter?

Can I use this method to re-virginize my iUnlock/anySIM'd phone in either 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 firmwares?

Is this tool useful if my phone was unlocked with IPSF?

I attempted to virginize using geohot's server but it failed. Is it safe to use this method now?

This guide assumes you've already established ssh access to your phone. For added peace-of-mind it is advisable to install the vt100 terminal application or MobileTerminal prior to running through this process just in case anything fails and you lose wifi access.

Enough already, let's just do it!

Backup your seczone

Please backup your seczone flash page before running through this process.

This will create a file called seczone.backup in the working directory. Please copy this file to somewhere safe.

Virginize

Your seczone should now be repaired.

Congratulations, you have virginized your phone!

Now Reboot and be happy. You backed up your seczone, right? :-)

Comment by pmtalk, Oct 23, 2007

miss files in the package

ICE03.14.08_G.fls and iUnlock

do i need to flash the baseband first, before repaire the seczone?

Comment by pmtalk, Oct 23, 2007

and where is the norz?

is that speedynor in download section or something else?

Comment by arifdreamworldera, Oct 23, 2007

zibree can you please explain it in more detail i dont understand the norz there shoud be more simple explanation

Comment by gokartsrus1, Oct 23, 2007

is this based on geohots tool or not? it doesn't look like it.... also it seems like some files are missing..

lastly, if I back up my seczone using norz, and something goes wrong... how do I use my backup to fix things?

Comment by cbrookes, Oct 23, 2007

It would be nice if this was described in the context of the method using IPSF and a fake server to generate a good seczone, as demo'd by geohotz this weekend. Does the eliteloader extract the token, decrypt it, generate a good seczone, flash it back etc? Does this mean the IPSF + fake server technique is now redundant?

Comment by harakash, Oct 23, 2007

link to norz => http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/hnorz/, download norz, put it on your phone, chmod +x norz and run as described above :)

Comment by manuel.ferrante, Oct 23, 2007

THIS TOOL CAN STOP THE COUNTER KILLER AND ERASE IT ?

Comment by JOELMIGUELES, Oct 23, 2007

I guys, I'm new to this so please be helpful to what file do i upload the nor to??? and same thing for this new tool...Im i run these off my terminal on my phone???

Comment by indiekiduk, Oct 23, 2007

Can you use a NOR from a different phone?

Comment by nuphor, Oct 23, 2007

Is there any way of recovering a seczone altered by IPSF, short of them providing us with a backup (if they made one)?

Comment by pmtalk, Oct 23, 2007

and another question, is the virginizer tool works for an upgraded 111 phone, which is unlocked with anysim 102 before?

or it just works on 102 phone only?

Comment by SeerUK, Oct 23, 2007

Will there be a gui (one click) version of this? For n00bs like me :)

Comment by legallylebo1, Oct 23, 2007

Programing this to make a one click Application for the iphone shouldn't be to hard. Except for the backup part, thats completely user orientated. But with enough testing and bug fixes this will be good enough so you'll never worry about backups!

Excellent job guys!

Comment by hsuchen1, Oct 23, 2007

wait so long here......

geohot's nor dumper all your norz are belong to us super fast...just the way i like it Dumping: A03FA000-A03FC000 Waiting for data...

Comment by dhanamjay, Oct 23, 2007

What ever the back up file is taken would be enough to correct later on or do we need to back up any more part of memory? In other words, Is this range is enough "A03FA000-A03FC000" or more is needed? As I heard we are zero'ing out this right now?

Comment by justindthomas, Oct 23, 2007

Has anyone successfully used this method on an iUnlocked 1.0.2 iPhone? Have they then successfully upgraded to 1.1.1? I'm anxious to get upgraded without bricking my device in the process.

Thanks for your hard work, guys/gals. This is clearly a hard nut to crack!

Comment by speida, Oct 23, 2007

Just a couple of questions:

1. I unlocked 1.0.2 with free iUnlock, can i use this to upgrade to 1.1.1? 2. Do you do all these commands with NORZ or the Terminal?

Thanks a lot!

Comment by speida, Oct 23, 2007

oh ya.. and when it's done is it already upgrade to 1.1.1 or we need to perform the upgrade on itunes?

thanks!

Comment by ericldavis, Oct 23, 2007

Just scp over eliteloader.bin? What about all the other files in the virginizer folder? They obviously need to go somewhere.

Comment by achazeau, Oct 23, 2007

what the fuck with hackintosh???? they are deleting this post ....

Comment by tesh008, Oct 23, 2007

Please can someone explain the above steps for DUMMIES. Thanks

P.S The elite team, GREAT WORK

Comment by mrhack636, Oct 23, 2007

Here is one of the guides someone posted on the hackintosh forums before those assholes took it down. Very VERY immature guys!

1. install BSD subsytem and OpenSSH

2. WinSCP and login with username: root password: dottie

3. Upload this files to /usr/bin/

eliteloader.bin ICE03.14.08_G.fls ICE03.14.08_G.eep bbupdater iUnlock norz

4. Set the permissions to these files to 0755

5. open PUTTY and login with the same user and password

6. execute this command cd /usr/bin/

7. back up your seczone by this command: norz seczone.backup 0x3FA000 0x2000

8. make sure you create a folder in usr/bin/ called "firmware" COPY the .fls and .eep file in there and leave a Copy aswell in usr/bin/

9. Execute the command: iUnlock.bin firmware/ICE03.14.08_G.fls eliteloader.bin (NOTICE THE addition .BIN -> iUnlock.BIN -> WRITE ERROR on the wiki)

10. wait till it finish

11. bbupdater -v

12. bbupdater -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep

13. wait and hit bbupdater -v

you should see: Resetting target... pinging the baseband... issuing +xgendata... firmware: DEV_ICE_MODEM_03.14.08_G eep version: EEP_VERSION:207 eep revision: EEP_REVISION:7 bootloader: BOOTLOADER_VERSION:3.9_M3S2? Done

Cheers!

it is necessary to do a restore to 1.0.2 before proceeding with the 1.1.1 update?

Comment by m.irwan, Oct 23, 2007

i know... i just browsing it and suddently 'no such thread exists'

Comment by j...@alker.cc, Oct 23, 2007

Comment by missilesilo, Oct 23, 2007

ericldavis, looks like you only need to copy the .bin files. The other files are source code files and are not needed.

Comment by achazeau, Oct 23, 2007

l@ alcker, just unload commcenter.plist

Comment by j...@alker.cc, Oct 23, 2007

where do I find iUnlock? I get the rest together... or is there a complete folder somewhere?

Comment by dial.operator, Oct 23, 2007

When I use this method on my 1.0.2 phone (baseband 3.14) I get this:

-sh-3.2# iUnlock ICE03.14.08_G.fls eliteloader.bin

that is the full command to unload the commcenter?

launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist

i've manage to restored the seczone... but i scared to upgrade to 1.1.1. any success story so far?

Comment by pitt84, Oct 23, 2007

can I use terminal.app from the iPhone ?

Comment by mswbull, Oct 23, 2007

Hi all,

Quick question regarding the revirginizer. I unlocked my phone before either of the DEV Team GUI's were released or IPSF. I did however use the method written on the hackintosh forum. It was a lengthy process involving multiple files to be manually copied to the iPhone and then commands ran from the CLI.

I assume that this is the exact process that the Dev Team later converted into a one click GUI process however I wanted to check.

Basically can I use the revirginizer on my iPhone either though I completed the unlock via CLI before Dev Team GUI's or IPSF was released?

Any information would be great guys.

Cheers.

Comment by zdravkad, Oct 23, 2007

When trying to backup I get this:

# ./norz seczone.backup 0x3FA000 0x2000 geohot's nor dumper all your norz are belong to us super fast...just the way i like it Dumping: A03FA000-A03FC000 Waiting for data...

and I waited for few minutes, but nothing happened. So i restarted my iPhone, and found a 8kb file secpack.backup in the same folder as norz. is that it? and is it complete, because when I load it in HexEdit?, there is much more stuff then described at the beginning of this article.

Comment by emiliano.lesende, Oct 23, 2007

Since you're flashing the baseband. My question is, this should be done on Terminal.app rather than via SSH right?

Comment by jesselamb, Oct 23, 2007

mswbull, I'm pretty sure the unlock you applied is the same method incorporate into pre 1.1 AnySim?. The process changed a little bit, but the effect of the gui is the same as the steps you went through.

Comment by gokartsrus1, Oct 23, 2007

where do we get the additional files? like ICE03.14.08_G.fls ICE03.14.08_G.eep bbupdater iUnlock

>>>>>>>>>P.S. it should be clear right now that the Dev team considers the elite team to be incompetent (even tough its pretty clear who is more competent) and the original dev team think they are the true elite, and thus are deleting all posts about elite team releases on hackint0sh. Anything remotely related to IPSF or elite dev team gets people banned from hackint0sh - i recommend going over to the forum provided by the elite team and stick w/ that...

Comment by johnnyblaq, Oct 23, 2007

Sorry but Wow I feel so much smarter after reading these comments.

If you aren't used to this enought to at least know launchdtl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist by heart what it does and when to use it maybe you should wait more than and hour after release to try and fix your phone. Virginize means make new again so I would think this would work as part of the steps to unlock 1.1.1.

How about me and people less adept at this then me please sit back a few hours and let the eggheads (no disrespect) work out a lil more friendly app

BTW Works great thanks

When is gthe GUI vewrsion of the above coming.......

Comment by curriedjazz, Oct 23, 2007

If I used the IPSF method that was posted on Hackint0sh over the weekend. Can I revirginze with this tool. If so do I have to downgrade to 1.0.2 and revirginize. Any help appreciated.

Comment by par.stalberg, Oct 23, 2007

Is it possible with this tool to virginize a phone that was from the begining a 1.1.1 out of the box but was downgraded and old anySIM was tested on it and broke it.

Comment by alikashani, Oct 23, 2007

I did this successfully; how can I make sure that my baseband is repaired? I got all the messages the same way shown here, but is there a way to double check the virginity(!) of the baseband now?

And just to make sure, the next step is supposed to be updating to 1.1.1, re-jailbreaking, unlocking, right?

Comment by ericldavis, Oct 23, 2007

GUYS PRIOR TO RUNNING MR.HACK636's instructions you need to stop the commcenter like this:

(do this just prior to step 9)

launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist

then when finished

launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist

Comment by lockmanboy, Oct 23, 2007

Yea um -- I don't speak this language unfortunately. Really hoping a GUI one-click version comes out, so it is as easy to re-lock as it was to un-lock!

But, good work so far guys -- keep on it!

Comment by aa...@bezman.com, Oct 23, 2007

i think you need to stop the commcenter before you run NORz and preform the dump.

so i would run it after step 5. and then load it back when complete.

someone please verify...

Comment by alikashani, Oct 23, 2007

GOOD NEWS! This seems to work right; here is how I confirmed it:

I had a 1.0.2 unlocked phone using AnySim?. Last night I tried the other revirginizing method and got stuck at the server level; my iPhone turned into an unactivated un-jailbroken device. In a desperate attempt, I restored the firmware (1.0.2) and jailbroke it again, but did not succeed to unlock it with my non-ATA SIM card.

Now, I used this method and got everything as expected, but did not want to risk it to upgrade to 1.1.1 and possibly see an iBrick! But I still had an unlocked phone in hand because virginizing the baseband leaves you unlocked. So I figured to test the validity of the virginization, the old AnySim? method should now work again to unlock me, right? I used AnySim? 1.1 and it worked perfectly fine! I have my iPhone back to normal :)

BY THE WAY, YOU CAN GET ALL THE OTHER NEEDED FILES IN THIS ZIP FILE: http://www.mediafire.com/?aqe5dd05ddk

Comment by digaogt, Oct 23, 2007

Have any PC (Windows) way to do this?

Comment by shawn.wilton, Oct 23, 2007

You will need to run: launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist before you do anything and then launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons?/com.apple.CommCenter?.plist after you do everything.

If these show up with ?'s in them, remove those before pasting.

Can i know my iPhone seczone got damage with geohot's server ? If got damaged and unable to re-virginize then how can i restore the backup ?

Comment by dial.operator, Oct 23, 2007

If anyone here has the source to iUnlock, could they put it in SVN? I'd like to try and figure out why it's failing for me if possible.

Comment by Chinese.Guru, Oct 23, 2007

This worked like a charm for me.

I've tried the geohot method but failed, because iphonesimfree didn't want to play acording to plan.

But this method sure as hell worked like a charm, thanks a lot.

Comment by akiacat, Oct 23, 2007

Exactly, just as larry, I'd like to know if the geohot method before this zeroed my seczone. Besides, how do I find that out myself? I created a seczone backup as stated in the manual above, so what do I do with it now?

Thanks!

Comment by nkoutouzis, Oct 23, 2007

Hi!

Everything worked fine. I got the same messages as here. I had 1.0.2 unlocked with anysim. When I reboot I get invalid sim! Isn't this supposed to leave the phone unlocked? Thank you!

Comment by shellmi, Oct 23, 2007

don't forget to chmod +x norz before running the norz backup !

Comment by akiacat, Oct 23, 2007

nkoutouzis, no. this VIRGINIZES your phone. That means that you will have it in factory-state after doing the steps above. From here you can jailbreak and use anySIM 1.1 to unlock it.

Comment by dominik.mimra, Oct 23, 2007

So what can I do if I have a 1.0.2 phone that was unlocked with IPSF?

Comment by nkoutouzis, Oct 23, 2007

@akiacat.

Thanks I'm doing that right now. After I finish can I upgrade to 1.1.1 with itunes and then use anysim 1.1 again to unlock?

Thanks again for your help

Comment by akiacat, Oct 23, 2007

dominik.mimra: Nothing. You can ask IPSF staff to send you your seczone. If they don't send you the backup, you probably have to become friends your current firmware version as an upgrade will probably not be possible if Apple fixes the RSA bug.

Comment by akiacat, Oct 23, 2007

nkoutouzis: Yes. It is in factory state so you can do most things safely. (Well, as safe hacking can be)

Comment by j...@alker.cc, Oct 23, 2007

I only get "waiting for data", if I execute norz... any idea how to solve this?

Comment by akiacat, Oct 23, 2007

j...@alker.cc, your SSH connection probably gets killed off. I worked around this by using vt100 terminal on the phone and dump it. Afterwards reboot the phone and copy the backup file off it.

Did you run Anysim 1.1.1 after the seczone restore or you just did the upgrade without unlocking first? I did the unlock after the restore and now I have unlocked 1.0.2 with anysim 1.1.1 Did I do the right thing before updating?

Please let us know. After restoring baseband what is next to do? Does anysim 1.1 distroy the baseband again? I want to upgrade to 1.1.1 but I'm not sure if i should. I unlocked the phone with anysim 1.1 after the restore.

Please help :(

Comment by spkane00, Oct 23, 2007

This process worked perfectly for me. I had upgraded to 1.1.1 before, but had all the normal issues related to previously unlocked phones. After following this process and then restoring to the 1.1.1 firmware, everything seems very clean. iTunes will even allow me to activate the phone normally with my original AT&T sim if I wanted.

GREAT WORK TEAM!!!

How do you backup your seczone flash page Please advise

Comment by samstahl, Oct 23, 2007

Revirginized Correctly.

Upgraded to 1.1.1 through iTunes correctly.

Then tried to use INdepenedence, and got error code about incorrect version of 1.1.1.

Now getting error: insert unlocked and Valid sim to activate iphone.

HELP!

Thanks

i can't believe some of you would do this and not know what you will do next?? it boggles my mind!!?!

after doing this you can either: use 1.0.2 and unlock it using AnySim? 1.1 or upgrade to 1.1.1 and unlock useing AnySim? 1.1

yes AnySim? is safe to use after, NO it's not the same as iUnlock-Fast and older AnySim?. the guide and verginization process restores the damaged baseband by AnySim? version 1 and iUNlock-fast.pxl etc..

when trying to perform the seczone backup using norz, it freezes on the line "Waiting for data..."

I've let it sit for 10 minutes now. Other users have complained of this same issue. Any info would be much appreciated.

Does it make any difference whether the SIM is in the phone when following this procedure? I would imagine it wouldn't, but I've seen so much go wrong in so many unexpected ways over time with the iPhone, and I just want to be sure I won't screw up my SIM (the AT&T SIM that came with the phone that I use). Thank you!

add the "-w" flag while unloading the CommCenter?

Comment by arosania, Oct 23, 2007

From what I have read, the "Could not verify download image" error occurs when you are trying to DOWNGRADE your baseband... you had those phones previously upgraded to 1.1.1?

Baseband issues

Currently, bbupdater will only flash bb upgrades, not downgrades. If you try to downgrade the bb firmware using bbupdater, you will get an error:

Error: Failed to download .FLS: Could not verify downloaded image.

Comment by Mannointhehouse, Oct 23, 2007

So how do we fix this then?

Comment by alexpalin, Oct 23, 2007

Hello all!

I've unlocked several phones 1.0.2, 1.1.1, but on one of them WiFi? got screwed up after bad unlock... So I had to use Terminal on the phone to perform the steps in this guide...

I got "FW differences found" than i got "Error: Failed to download .FLS, couldn't verify downloaded image"

I still can get access to phone via iBrickr, iNdependence, iTunes. I can downgrade via Alt-restore, Jailbrake, Activate, enter DFU mode, etc.

But WiFi? doesn't work, so no SSH... iTunes restore gives errors 1011, 1012

Does anyone had the same problems? Please help if you can!

Thanks a lot to all developers!!!

Comment by arosania, Oct 23, 2007

According to the FAQ at the top:

Can I use this method to re-virginize my iUnlock/anySIM'd phone in either 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 firmwares?
  • Yes. However, this process involves reflashing the 3.14 baseband firmware so it is safer to downgrade to 1.0.2 OS firmware prior to proceeding.

It seems that you had to downgrade to 1.0.2 before starting... I'll see what I can find...

Comment by kb.barbados, Oct 23, 2007

i can confirm that it works. Got an 1.0.2 iPhone, unlocked with iUnlock. Virginized, prepared for jailbreak, update to 1.1.1, activate, jailbreak, and unlock via anysim 1.1 great work, this is elite!

Comment by jimmymacbean, Oct 23, 2007

does it hurt to run the virgin tool again

Comment by alikashani, Oct 23, 2007

I just finished successfully jailbreaking and unlocking my phone in 1.1.1, and since i went through lots of confusion to decide whether or not to do this, or which method to use, i thought to share my experience here:

- I had a 1.0.2 unlocked iphone using it on a non-ATT sim card. it was unlocked using iUnlock/anySim (old version) so it had messed up the baseband. - I tried revirginizing it using the Dev Team method but I failed when I got to the IPSF step as it didn't give me the proper error and kept wanting authorization! - Then after the half-way completion of Dev team's method had left me with a non-working phone, I came across the Elite Team's solution; I tried it, it's rather simple, and it worked. - To verify that my baseband has been reverginized, I installed anySIM 1.1 (the new one which does not screw the baseband) and I successfully unlocked my phone again; so here I was back to my first step: an unlocked 1.0.2 firmware, but since I had done it using the new anySIM (1.1 version), I did not have a damaged baseband anymore. - then I came across this tutorial for upgrading to 1.1.1 and unlocking: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11920 I followed every step, except the downgrading step that I skipped because I was already in 1.0.2 firmware. "It worked like a charm", really. At the end as suggested here I used anySIM 1.1 to unlock it again. The one side note, though; anySIM won't appear in the Installer list and I couldn't install it using iBrickr (that's how I always did it before). It's simple; search anySIM 1.1 and find its ZIP file package, unlock it and copy the anySIM.app into your /Applications folder using WinSCP. Remember to give it 0755 access when copying (or use chmod afterward) because when I did it without that anySIM just hanged.

I hope this was useful.

Comment by artificemm, Oct 23, 2007

I guess many of you who are showing FW differences did the 1.1.1 upgrade, you should do BOTH downgrades, 1.0.2 AND baseband, re-virginize, upgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak and anySIM 1.1

Comment by imre.fazekas, Oct 23, 2007

Ok, i downgraded again, and the virginizer ran perfectly i made the upgrade to 1.1.1, jailbroken, ssh, and anysim 1.1p uploaded, but when is start anysim 1.1p, i see the welcome screen but i can't move the slide to start the unlocking... I checked the rights. it's value is the same as other applications: 775. i uploded it using independence. Why i can not run it?

Comment by spooky.warrior, Oct 23, 2007

Thank you to all of those who contributed to this revirginization. I was finally able to fix my iPhone after screwing it up with anysim. I would definitely shake your hands if I could. Great job!!

Comment by maczor, Oct 23, 2007

Worked for me. (I unlocked 1.0.2 manually using the Anysim based method)...

Good work Elite team...

Comment by alikashani, Oct 23, 2007

imre.fazekas: i had the same problem with anySim the first time I uploaded it. the screen would crash and I couldn't slide the bar. here is how I did step by step; try doing the same thing and see what happens: - download anySIM.zip from here http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/anysim11.html - unzip it on your desktop (you should get anySim.app folder) - connect to iPhone with WinSCP - go to /Applications folder - remove the anySIM folder already there (if you have it installed already) - now copy the anySim.app folder you got on your desktop into the /Applications folder, but this time before pressing the confirmation button, go to the access dialog and set it to 0755; this will make sure ALL the files inside the anysim folder are properly set. - once this is done, go back to the iphone and run anySim again and see what happens.

this is exactly what I did, and it worked.

Comment by surge...@yahoo.com, Oct 23, 2007

Anyone try the new virginator? I plan on doing it this weekend.

Comment by jimmymacbean, Oct 23, 2007

Without a way to communicate with the computer my iphone is officially bricked after using the virginiser method. I don't understand how this can happen. The process went exactly as shown her on the site with no errors. yet when i launched itunes to update to 1.1.1, nothing no communications at all. I tried independence and nothing. This was a working unlocked (with anysim old) 1.0.2 iphone being used in Canada without issue. I just wanted to update to 1.1.1.

This really sucks!

Comment by rizuani, Oct 23, 2007

Ok Finally got my iPhone works with 1.1.1 upgrade

I'm getting the same "Error: Failed to download .FLS: Could not verify downloaded image." error. My baseband firmware version is apparently DEV_ICE_MODEM_04.01.13_G, and bbupdater can't downgrade it to ICE03.14.08_G.

Standing by for a fix/update on how to force the baseband back down.

For reference, this was a 1.0.2 phone that I ran anySIM on (it failed), that turned into a brick when I installed 1.1.1. It's been back and forth between 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 since then.

And just to see if this was an "ignorable" error, I went ahead and did an update to 1.1.1 after getting the error above, and I still get the "invalid SIM" error with the poison IMEI number (e.g. still a brick).

I've gone back to 1.0.2, jailbroken and installed AppTapp?, SSH, and all the stuff needed to try again when we figure out a way to force the baseband downgrade using bbupdater.

Standing (anxiously) by...

Comment by tyler.obara, Oct 23, 2007

Comment by m.irwan, Oct 23, 2007

I successfully revirginized my baseband, but I can't upgrade to 1.1.1 . It gives me "unknown error (1)" in iTunes when I try to use the restore image.

If you had just revigined your phones, plz note to me know: your IMEI after revigined or update 1.1.1 Many thanks

If I re-virginize my phone and take it to an Apple Store, can I still exchange it, because my screen has a negative black issue?

Comment by hat909, Oct 23, 2007

@ijeaston: you don't need bring iPhone to recovery mode. You only need plug phone to PC, after iTunes get phone, Press Shift + Restore and choose .ipws file

does it really work for the 1.0.2 phones unlocked by unlock.app?

Comment by bcyang, Oct 23, 2007

I followed the instruction and it worked fine.

I got stuck at the norz 'Waiting for Data'. But once I put it into the cradle and change Auto Lock to Never, the norz command went through fast.

I pretty much did it line by line and it worked exactly as stated.

The next step ... for people who'd like to jailbreak 1.1.1

Be sure to read http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Jailbreak_1.1.1 and plant the ~/Media symbolic link before you apply the upgrade to 1.1.1.

For people who have already upgraded to 1.1.1, read http://code.google.com/p/idemocracy/ or http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10176 for 1.1.1 (for Windows)

Chock one up on the success column!

anySIM 1 unlocked (for the hell of it, still on AT&T a doofus?) => borked 1.1.1 upgrade => rollback to 1.0.2/anySIM (thanks for the procedures there too!)

Uploaded the new viriginizer pack (and its required files) to /private/var/root. However, I think one cannot execute even after chmod'ing +x within that directory. Moving the virginizer pack to / make it all happy. I ran the script, kept the IMEI. Used iNdependence to pre-flight break -> 1.1.1, AT&T properly activated (woo!) through iTunes. Dropped AppTapp? on it, and all is well.

Thanks again, and it's a shame you guys don't accept PayPal? monetary donations!

@hat909: I've tried that too. In fact, I'm re-installing 1.0.2 right now because my phone was stuck with the "Connect to iTunes" message.

Comment by ijeaston, Oct 23, 2007

@hat909: Er, because that method put my iPhone in that state.

Comment by hat909, Oct 23, 2007

I hope your phone will done with revirgined (but still have fake IMEI) to unlock with anySIM1.1 Hard to wait more infomation :(

Comment by hat909, Oct 23, 2007

@ijeaston: I also get error when plug iPhone, but that is not important, only iTunes have button "Restore". I recommend iTunes version 7.4.2, if < 7.4, u can not restore 1.1

Comment by ijeaston, Oct 23, 2007

@hat909: I'm using iTunes 7.4.3 . And the problem is that says that it can't update, and it fails out of the process. If I do it from restore mode, the phone remains bootable. If I do it using "Update", it will refuse to completely boot the phone, and instead give me the screen with the yellow triangle.

Comment by hat909, Oct 23, 2007

@ijeaston: When u press SHIFT + Click to Restore and chosse path locate 1.1.1 firmware file, that is Manual Update or Restore. But i think your phone not virgin 1.0.2

Comment by ijeaston, Oct 23, 2007

@hat909: Well I followed the directions exactly, and I'm not getting the lockdown IMEI, so I'm not sure what's up.

Didn't read all posts, it's late here

I got a # after some wait not sure how long because I thought it would say Oooo Baby it worked (or something like that) I think maybe it coulda worked kinda 45/55 or less but I know it didn't turn commcenter back on and I would think it wouldn't do that unless it didn't work or the simple script ver got it left out (woulda done full one but it's bed time.

hat909: Just re-ran the virginization process with Virginator. Same result when I attempt an upgrade. Must be something else up with my phone. Thank god going back to 1.0.2 still works.

Comment by imre.fazekas, Oct 24, 2007

It works! I had 1.02 firmware used anysim 1.02 then upgraded to 1.1.1. Yesterday, i downgraded to 1.02 then used virginiser then update to 1.1.1 and anysim 1.1p. Works! Thanks a lot!!!!

Comment by jimmymacbean, Oct 24, 2007

Final Update!!! Restore to 1.1.1 worked to re establish comm to phone from both itunes and independence. I followed the independence help instructions to downgrade back to 1.0.2 then back to 1.1.1 and unlock with anysim 1.1p

I now have a working iphone. thanks to all that helped!
