Frequently asked questions

I have just recently purchased an iPhone from an Apple or AT&T store. Can I unlock this phone?

It depends on how recently you purchased it. The newer iPhones that are currently available in stores have a new baseband bootloader that is currently not possible to unlock. The easiest way to check your phone is to look at the activation screen. Do you see a screen that says "activate iPhone, connect to iTunes"? If so, your phone can more than likely be unlocked. However, if you see a screen with a picture of a cable and the iTunes icon, your phone cannot be unlocked at this time.

If you've just purchased an iPhone then it is almost guaranteed to have this new bootloader. Back in December of 2007 (and earlier) it was possible to find older iPhones; this task is impossible now.

I used anySIM 1.0.x, iUnlock, Unlock.app, HaRRo's GUI unlock, or George Hotz's hardware unlock to unlock my phone, on firmware 1.0.2 and then upgraded to 1.1.1. Now I have an IMEI starting with 0049 and my iPhone's voice/EDGE functionality does not work. What should I do?

You need to revirginize your phone.

Is it possible to completely remove any sign that anySIM 1.0.x, iUnlock, Unlock.app, HaRRo's GUI unlock, or George Hotz's hardware unlock ever touched my phone?

Yes. Revirginize your phone.

Can I downgrade the 4.01.13 (1.1.1) baseband to the 03.14.08 (1.0.2) baseband, but keep the 1.1.1 OS firmware so I can use my unlocked iPhone in 1.1.1?

This is possible, but it is not recommended. Revirginize your phone.

I used George Hotz's spoofed IPSF server with success. What should I do?

In that case, you don't need to do anything. Your seczone's lock tables are correct and you can upgrade to 1.1.1, unless you used IPSF without saving your seczone beforehand. In that case, please refer to TEASecZone for a discussion of the IPSF unlock.

Comment by Gixxer750, Oct 12, 2007

hi i have a 1.02 phone that i used anysim to unlock.i would like to know if i can just run ieraser with the 1.1.1 secpack to erase my baseband, then reflash 1.02 baseband and then run simfree.app to fix the anysim corruption and unlock so i can safely upgrade to 1.1.1, without having to brick my phone first. thanx for the great work

Baseband FW 04.01.13_G vs 04.02.04_G -- Does it make a Difference?

It has come to my attention that the OS FW 1.1.1 comes with 2 different flavors of BB FW 4.0x, namely 04.01.13_G and 04.02.04_G.

Does this make any difference? Is AnySIM 1.1 designed to detect and operate correctly with both? Could this exlpain why some people have trouble while others fly through the guides with no issues? Food for thought, any takers?

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION:

If I unlock my 1.0.2 iPhone with anySIM 1.1 (the NEW) can I upgrade in a safe way to 1.1.1???

Y tried to revirginize the 1.0.2 unlocked with the OLD version of anySIM but it got bricked. I unbricked it (downgrading the BB), revirginized it and unlocked again with the NEW anySIM (the 1.1). That's why I'm asking if I can upgrade with no problems.

Please answer!!

(You are TRULLY Elite!)

Comment by carlitossuper1, Nov 03, 2007

From the previous post, I tried to revirginize and then I updated the iPhone but it got bricked. That's why a downgraded to 1.0.2 including the BB.

Cheers!

Do you know if this delay is just a momentary thing, or is it possible that it will not be unlocked? Thank you very much, keep on unlocking :-) and rocking, gp

I tried to install AppTapp? onto my 1.0.2 iPhone, I've read countless websites and forums but I cannot get past the yellow warning sign, I then have to use independance to get the iPhone back to a usable state.

I want to know three things, is there anotherway of installing AppTapp?? or is there a fix for this problem. Can I upgrade to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 if I have already unlocked the sim using AnySIM and then unlock again using the latest version of AnySIM?

Hi, I just bought a ipod touch 1.1.4 2 days ago and i tried to unlock it, and jailbreak it using this program and while it was going through the process the screen started showing white computer language and will not go away. If i restart my ipod it just comes back up and i can't get rid of it it says BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 over and over again hopefully i didn't damage the ipod for good

Comment by rmatthewlauer, Jun 26, 2008

Hi,

I have a problem with my iPod Touch 1.1.4, I downloaded the ZiPhone? GUI v3.0, succesfully used the second option to jailbreak my iPod. So i disconnected my iPod from my Toshiba laptop that works off of Windows XP, and safely ejected it from my iTunes 7.5.0.20, I had both Zibri's blog as a new icone and the other one that came with all the new programs that i could download from (i forget the name of it... - but the jailbreak adds two new programs... so the second one is the one i'm talking about).

The first time, it asked me to "donate" and i tried pressing "later" but it wouldn't go through, so i just waited a couple seconds and it just automatically skipped the donate thing, and went right to the options, for all of the possible programs i could download... i tried to scroll down to see all the different types (i was fascinated!) but then it froze on me... so i shut my ipod down by pressing both the middle button and the start button.

I repeated this action, and this action repeated itself twice, so then, i thought i'd be all smart and connect it back to iTunes, which it located perfectly, then opened up ZiPhone?, which also worked out. Then i selceted the third option that was to jailbreak and enable the iphone usage...

During the hacking of this option onto my ipod, i accidentally unplugged it while it was still working, (by accidentally i mean i disconnected it without stopping the process on Ziphone). So now the only thing my ipod will do when i turn it on is type a bunch of random shit in white font with this black backround (exactly the same look as when it is in progress of being jailbroken) and after a long paragraph of it that almost covers a full vertical page of my ipod, it repeats:

BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

etc...

It also gives a different paragraph whenever i connect it to my laptop (longer pargraph - pretty much saying that it got connected), or disconnect it from my laptop(a few lines - pretty much saying it got disconnected)... and then goes on with the:

BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

etc...

But it never locates on iTunes, which prevents it from locating on ZiPhone? - for whatever option i try it just says :

Started process ziphone.exe with argument: -Z I

HUGE Z THING

Ziphone 3.0 by Zibri http://www.ziphone.org

Checking Ziphone integrity... Searching for iPod...

and can stay there forever, and still won't locate the ipod... and the only way i'm able to shut it down is by pressing both the middle and the top buttons simultaneously... And of course if i turn it on again (just by pressing the top button for a long period of time)... it'll give me the apple logo, then this long-ass paragraph and then start over with the:

BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

etc...

I let the battery deplete and tried it again, and the same thing keeps on happening...

It's similar to the problem ashh90... has, im just trying to give more detail on how and what happened to me for a better review on the situation...

Thankyou for reading this, and i thankyou for helping me.

Comment by soban_na...@hotmail.com, Jun 27, 2008

hi...mathew looks like you have to restore your ipod touch to its original state by restoring it thru itunes and 1.1.4 firmware to make it function as a first step..

use ipewn to path the boot laoder and then jailbreak it. i also got the same prob while jailbreaking my ipod touch with 1.1.4 firmware. dont get panicked by the letters appearing on screen of ipod during jail break process.. while restoring the firmware you might have to put your ipod in DFU mode...

hope it solves your problem

Comment by rmatthewlauer, Jul 02 (6 days ago)

hi soban_na...,

Yeah, i thought that would have been the solution at the begining (restoring it to 1.1.4 firmware), but what happens is that, my ipod isnt locating on itunes, therefor not on ziphone GUI v3.0... so i dont know if i can still fix it even though it has that issue, or i am deeply screwed, was urs able to locate on itunes, if so, then what do u recomend i do to fix mine, and if not, then please explain to me what i have to do (like selecting certain things on ziphone GUI v3.0 and whatnot), sorry for the bother, but im no expert when it comes to this stuff :), thankyou very much for your response, i hope i hear from you soon,

Matthew
