This is just what the iPhone/touch needs. I myself am a (bedroom) DJ and would be thrilled for this to come out. I'd love to try this out

please..

this one is gonna be so fun to be true.

thanks google

Comment by azinman, Feb 28, 2008

it aint google doing this!!

Comment by chokopie, Feb 29, 2008

sounds awesome, but i have a few concerns.

1. no eq's? hard to make a good mix without basscutting...or messing with the mid high lows.

2. mixing with tables..and mixer...u have headphones...that way u can only hear and match the upcoming song, so how would this work with iphone through speakers/headphones? because u need to hear both at same time to match bpms. other then that cool idea.

Comment by azinman, Feb 29, 2008

that screenshot is by no means final (it will be different, guaranteed) , and we already are working on EQ, etc... plus some crazy stuff. im a dj, so dont' worry a dj's perspective is properly represented.

unfortunately the iphone only has 1 stereo out, so you'll need to split it and L will go to the mains, R will go to your cue.

Comment by musiq...@free.fr, Mar 01, 2008

Guys, you're incredible. That's just amazing. Please take your time and release the best software ever. If you need beta testing, sounds, etc. please contact me on my page : http://musiqman.free.fr/contact/

Comment by BryanMcDesign, Mar 06, 2008

cue out = stereo, master out = wifi to airport. result: DJing in the crowd

Comment by azinman, Mar 06, 2008

these things are possible (in theory).. we've thought about wifi. but wifi to airport isn't possible because its an encrypted proprietary algorithm... i think ppl have broken it but its not legit to use, and i cant really afford dealing with apple's legal department.

if in teh sdk (specs arent out yet) apple allows you to use it, then ok. we've also thought about multiple iphones wifi'd together, but its hard w/o an access point because you can't put it into ad-hoc mode directly. you could wifi to your laptop, but if you have a laptop, why aren't you just using a dj app for that? (course we can interface w/touch screen.... but it still seems a bit silly)

Comment by i...@djshop.pl, Mar 11, 2008

talk to, for example, BELKIN, they can build for u 2 independent stereo out module (: as we know now iPhone supports multichanell core audio

Comment by azinman, Mar 11, 2008

a) we're not commercial b) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surround_sound it doesn't work the way you think it does

Comment by docazrael, Mar 22, 2008

Hi, any DJ-Interface supported?

Comment by dmetcalf87, Mar 28, 2008

I retract my last idea. Could you maybe integrate 4 blinking dots that are synced with each track's bpm so when you beat match all you have to do is match up the blinking dots? It might be easier than doing the whole waveform idea but just throwing out an idea to accommodate for the loss of cueing.

Comment by azinman, Mar 28, 2008

well, the real way to do it is try multiple approaches.. wanna help code it?

i think a hybrid approach can still work yet keep the fun of a turntable setup.... scratching maybe done that way w/a kill switch for the fader, but i want to have models of existing scratches that it will perform automatically for you or w/little parameterization... think guitar hero for scratching....

now if it only were summer so i could spend time on this instead of preparing for my final set of phd exams....

Comment by ste.giraldo, Apr 26, 2008

Hi guys, I would give you a suggestion, try to emulate only one deck (like a simple Pioneer CDJ-100) a DJ need only a pitch control and a jog wheel... other things like scratch or sampling are superfluous. So it will more simple for you and all the DJs will use two ipod/iphone connected to a mixer just like real CD player, it will allow to use the mixer's CUE and keep the CUE button tapped on the ipod touch. Thanks SteFX.

Comment by junkwars2, Apr 30, 2008

I maybe completely wrong here but doesnt the docking port have a line-out like the iPod? Maybe there is a way to utilise both that, and the headphone port, independently? Headphone for cue and an adapter to turn the docking port into another headphone port for the master out. For mixing on the go u could offer the cue in left channel of headphones and master in right. About the GUI, how about having just one deck which is the controller for both, simply hit a button to choose which deck ( A or B) it is representing at any given time? It would make for less errors when mixing cos the deck controls would be bigger, and could offer scope for 3 or 4 decks... Either that or utilise the "tap and zoom" function of the iPhone to zoom into each area of the setup for more control (I.e. Double tap on crossfader so that is taking up most of the display, etc (maybe with pitch nudge buttons visible to ;) ) I dunno, just brainstorming some thoughts here. I would LOVE a dj app for my phone for those times away from my traditional setup, thought the iPhone with its potential would be able to do it and if I could code would love to have helped in the development of this, keep up the good work!

Comment by koboos, May 30, 2008

Hi. Is this project still being developped? ;)

Comment by azinman, May 30, 2008

This summer (i.e. within 2 weeks) is when I personally will have time to work on this.... I suspect the same of the other developers.

Comment by b...@vitaio.nl, May 31, 2008

Hi Azinman,

Do you have a deadline for this appp? And is there allready a Beta version i can test? Please let me know. DJ mixing on the IPod is, i think, the app a lot of people are waiting for.

Greetings Bas from Holland

Comment by azinman, May 31, 2008

of course no deadline... this is open source baby!

just be patient.

Comment by modcam, Jun 18, 2008

I just thought of a possible solution to the wifi/airport cue audio signal problem.

What if you used cycling 74's soundflower to send audio to a laptop or something? just a suggestion.

Comment by Xiao.ma.hall, Jun 19, 2008

Is it possible for someone to compile your source code and have it run?

Comment by brncngz, Jul 03, 2008

when will it come dude we're in the middle of the summer

Comment by casey.dougall, Jul 09, 2008

I've came across Noise.io - synthesizer app for iPhone, it will be released on the 25th of August. http://noise.io

Comment by micwreck, Aug 06, 2008

I was talking to a friend about developing this same application the other day. Glad to see someone took charge on it already. Personally, I think the easiest option would be to have the headphone jack as the main/cue. I was thinking that you could convert the main stereo output to mono and push it to the right headphone, while the left can be used as cue. On the screen, perhaps it would be good to have a cross fader to blend the cue with the master in the left headphone. This way, I can dj on the train to work, and (more importantly) if I want to dj at a party or something, I can bring a stereo-splitter. Granted, if I was really djing a party, I would bring Serato, but it's nice to have an option for impromptu parties, etc. Also, it would be cool to have a set-recording function so that I can publish mixes, but I'm sure that Apple's DRM licensing would be an issue.

Anyway, please keep us updated on the progress! I will buy an iPhone just to use this app! I almost bought the pacemaker, but the price scared me away (although the price dropped to $850).

Also, on a final note, perhaps you can put an option to switch the cue from right to left? Most dj's I know and work with cue up with their left ear. This is mostly hip hop and drum and bass dj's...

Comment by vengura, Aug 30, 2008

Hey all of you! Take a look here:

http://quickdecay.com/VirtualDeck_User_Manual.pdf

I've just installed it!

Comment by marianomd, Sep 18, 2008

cue----> Bluetooth headset

Master---> line out

Is this feasible?

Comment by TayloredEvents, Sep 30, 2008

virtual deck is shit

Comment by watermandavid, Oct 09, 2008

i think a stereo splitter will allow you to put deck A out as a mono and deck B in the headphones to cue up......this would also work for the iPod provided you can use the buttons to select between decks. OK its not great, but it has the same potential as the Tonium Pacemaker which i bought for impromptue parties. I hope you release this soon as its wanted by a lot of people and your market potential is huge. Even releasing an initial lite version with a more fully featured option would be enough i think if it gets the momentum going. Nice!

Comment by vengura, Oct 12, 2008

Virtual Deck is shit, but vith every new update it's performance becomes more suitable for playing it live. However I've never tried it live yet, only at home.

The aim in developing such an application should be the quckest RESPONSE TIME! (when moving pitch or stopping a record) Otherwise it'll be useless.

Comment by ArchitectualRenderings, Oct 15, 2008

If you need help with some interface design let me know i would like to see total dedication to function while looking crisp and uncluttered. I have been working on a handheld portable DJ device with tactile buttons but the iphone kind makes my designs obsolete. Any help(no coding because i would be useless)i can provide would be a pleasure.

Comment by snuttemjuk, Dec 03, 2008

I just got the Iphone the other day and started searching for an app to cross fade mp3's. To my surprise there were no proper apps out there one year after hardware release. I'm sure this app will take the app genre lead by lightyears once release. I sure am looking forward to trying it out. Best of luck guys! Loving the simplified interface with focus on ferformance and core functionality rather than silly sound-fx etc. Well done!

Comment by hersio, Dec 09, 2008

Hi. All right? My name is dj Carrey, and I speak from Brazil. How is the project? Still in development? Very interesting this app. Congratulations on the initiative, I look back dj_carrey@gmail.com

Comment by alejandroguemes, Jan 18, 2009

Guys I know your busy with school and stuff, but if you finish this properly you could sell it and earn some money (probably already know that), the thing is that there are tons of people eager to get their hands on this app (including me).. Cheers and keep up the good work.

Alex

Comment by tallguye...@aol.com, Mar 31, 2009

As a professional DJ I've been searching for an app just like this! Anyone have any idea of release date? Will it have a bpm matching facility? Regardless, the thought of arriving at a gig with everything I need in my pocket is amazing. Please hurry development!!

Comment by 2roc...@live.com, Apr 22, 2009

GREAT IDEA

It would be even better if you could stream the output into a Shoutcast server
