Usage Instructions
Getting Started
After the application has been launched, the map screen will be immediatley viewed on the screen. To pan the map, select the direction required using the device's directional keypad or using the touch screen directional arrows in the top-right corner of the display. To zoom in on the map’s central point, select the hash key (#) on the keypad or select the plus symbol (+) on the touch screen controls. To zoom out, select the asterisk key or select the minus symbol (-) on the touch screen controls. Alternatively, double-clicking on the display using touch screen will re-centre the map and zoom in on that location.
The menu bar is also located at the bottom of the screen that will allow the user to exit the program or launch the main menu. The following options described in this section are all available through the main menu.
Adding an observation
Upon selecting this option a moveable cursor appears allowing the user to choose a location to add an observation. When the desired location is chosen, select “Add Observation”, enter a value on the proceeding screen and select “OK”. The value should now be visible on the map. Alternatively, a user can add an observation by selecting and holding a point on the map using touch screen.
Delete Observation
Selecting this option launches a screen which allows the user to select one of the existing observations for deletion. A user can tab though the observations by selecting ‘5’ on the number keypad or by selecting an observation using touch screen. When an observation is selected it will be highlighted in red. “Delete observation” can then be selected from the menu bar.
Fetch Observations
Selecting this option connects to the Sensor Observation Service (SOS) using a simplified interface. The observations will then be downloaded for the map area that is current displayed.
Send Interpolation Request
Upon selecting this option, an interpolation request will be generated for the current observations in view and sent to the Simple Interpolate service. When the request is complete, the user can then choose to view the mean and variance overlays from the main menu. The mean overlay will automatically be displayed following a successful interpolation request. Only one interpolation request can be carried out at a time. Any subsequent interpolation request will replace the previously requested data.
View Mean / Variance overlay
These options can be selected after an interpolation request has been carried out. The mean or variance image will be downloaded from the Simple Interpolate server and displayed on the screen if it is currently within view.
Inspect Location
Upon selecting this option a cursor will appear that can be moved using the directional keypad. When the cursor is over the desired location select “Inspect” which will display a box containing the co-ordinates of the selected location in addition to the interpolated mean and variance values. Alternatively a location can be selected by tapping the display using touch screen on the desired location and selecting “Inspect”.
