IMOS Toolbox

IMOS is an initiative of the Australian Government being conducted as part of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy.

The IMOS Matlab Toolbox aims to provide an automated, easy to use interface for converting raw instrument data into IMOS compatible Quality Controlled NetCDF files, ready for handover to eMII. The toolbox is designed to process data which is manually retrieved from long-term mooring sites.

Typical usage of the Toolbox would proceed as follows:

  1. User downloads data set from an instrument supported by the Toolbox (e.g. SBE37).
  2. User imports data set into Toolbox and performs some pre-processing tasks like local time to UTC time conversion.
  3. Toolbox executes automatic QC procedures over data set, such as in/out of water flagging, spike detection, outlier and flatline checks.
  4. User performs manual QC over data via interactive display.
  5. Toolbox generates IMOS compatible NetCDF files containing raw and QC'd data sets.

The Toolbox makes use of the CSIRO Matlab Seawater Library.

Getting started

Important

An improved version of the Deployment Database has been made available. Versions of the toolbox which are older than October 19th 2009 will not work with this database - this includes versions 1.0 and 1.5 of the toolbox. If you wish to use this new deployment database, stick with the latest toolbox version.

  • Grab an archive from the Downloads page (source or standalone).
  • If you're using a standalone version, install the proper Matlab Runtime. New Matlab runtime are required for toolbox above versions 1.5.
  • Optionally, download the deployment database template, and populate it with some data.
  • Check the wiki pages for using and configuring the toolbox.
  • If you're using a deployment database, have a look at the guidelines for deployment database metadata entry. The latest IMOS NetCDF User's manual, containing a list of IMOS facility and platform codes, is available from the IMOS website.
  • If something goes wrong, send me an email, or submit an issue.
