Frequently Asked Questions for iTunesLyrics

Downloaded lyrics have weird characters. Why?

Please download the latest version after v1.1 which has this issue fixed.

How can I access Lyric Viewer?"

In iTSfv go to Tools > Lyrics Viewer

iLyrics doesn't exclude "ft." or "feat." from song names?

This behavior is not supported in iLyrics, however this functionality is currently available through iTSfv.

Only accepts exact matches? Would be nice to see a way to choose from close matches.

This feature is planned for the future.

What is iTSfv?"

iTSfv is the iTunes Lyrics Importer with advanced features such as

To import Lyrics from LyricWiki

  • Select the tracks in iTunes
  • Press Validate Selected Tracks under Tracks tab

Support for itunes 8?

Comment by felipefraga, Oct 18, 2008

Thanks for the great app. Small suggestion though: It would be nicer not to write Not Found on the song lyrics during mass updates when the actual lyrics can't be identified. I have tons of songs with it now, that I will have to write a simple application to remove it.

Comment by fiesta78b, Oct 22, 2008

the lyrics that doesn't found mark as "not found". in the future you maybe will have this song's lyric, but if i try to update it again (i have more then 9000 song so i use the automatic mode) the importer will skip on this song. any idea?

Comment by smellytongue, Nov 25, 2008

Great add on. It is a pain that it stops and waits for input every time it encounters an error, though. Perhaps it could generate a report at the end with a list of songs not found, errors, etc. Also, as mentioned above, many songs now have "not found" embedded. Maybe an option to remove that entry could be added in the future? Thanks for the good work.

iLyrics has support for iTunes 8. If you are having trouble, please follow this guide:

http://code.google.com/p/itsfv/wiki/FAQ#I_upgraded_iTunes_and_iTSfv_does_not_start_properly_/_getting_&q

The "Not Found" issue is addressed in iTSfv - http://code.google.com/p/itsfv/

iTSfv is an newer addon that includes iLyrics features and much more. I am in the talks with the original developer of iLyrics to officially support that addon here.

It does not work. No lyrics are added. It just says: Last Action: Opened C:\Documents and Settings\alay\My Documents\iTSFv\Settings\

No changes are made to any track.

Comment by alay.a.mehta, Jan 08, 2009

Basically, proxy authentication is needed (the warning log says this):

"The request failed with HTTP status 407: Proxy Authentication Required."

Comment by marlowecabardo, Jan 29, 2009

i tried this, a lot of my tracks got the lyrics but also a lot of them doesn't have but when i manually search for the song lyrics in lyricwiki.com, the lyrics exist in their database. Why is it not added?

Also, I noticed that after validating my tracks it says "does not conform to iTunes Store Standard" what does that mean?

Comment by panicop, Mar 02, 2009

I've got a problem since today i can't import any lyric with ilyrcs the warning log says: "http 502: bad gateway"

But until yestarday it worked very well! why doesn't it work anymore?

Comment by flavinha, Mar 02, 2009

Comment by blackbladeX1X2, Mar 04, 2009

Same here

Wow, what a great little piece of software! I really think there should be more fanfare about it. I don't mean to shoot myself in the foot, but, why don't you charge for it? The only thing I would ask for would be to incorporate it into iTunes or Explorer; right-click - Get Lyrics.

Thanks for a cool little bit of functionality that Apple would never bother with.

"Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions from some of the major music publishers we can no longer return lyrics through the LyricWiki? API (where this application gets some or all of its lyrics).

(Please note: this is not the fault of the developer who created this application, but is a restriction imposed by the music publishers themselves.)"

And with that the program which I loved so much is no more. Is there any way for this program to live on? It was exceptionally good compared to it's competitors and it would be such a pain to manually enter lyrics into each song. It was good while it lasted and for that I thank you.

Comment by d.johen, Aug 05, 2009

i'm so pissed off! and it's not just because the program doesn't work anymore.

it's because i bought my ipod 2 days ago: when i came home, i tried this wonderful software with one album or two and it worked great. and i thought to myself: "well, lets add lyrics to the entire library tomorrow". today i run ilyrics through the entire itunes library and sync. now EVERY 'lyric' shows up the restriction message.

if i knew this was coming i would just have done that before! aaarrrgh!

Comment by jordan10la, Aug 05, 2009

Luckily I already it done for my entire library, unfortunately, I fully intend to acquire more music and lyrics has now become a necessity.

Comment by inglouriousmofo, Aug 06, 2009

Will this ever be fixed?

Comment by i...@quasarmedia.com, Aug 11, 2009

What a deception. I paid for the damn music!

Comment by juho.rantala, Aug 12, 2009

Just another example why you should never buy music from the major publishers. Good luck on their chosen path to destroy their businesses with these stupid restrictions. It is more easy to just download illegal copies of the music with lyrics already in the ID3-tags compared to buying the CD then ripping it to your computer (bypassing copy restrictions) and then manually adding lyrics and album art into it. I just don't get the logic behind these stupid restrictions that only work against the paying customers.

Comment by jordan10la, Aug 12, 2009

I'm not a paying customer but I still get no lyrics :(

Comment by romero7491, Aug 14, 2009

is there any way that iLyrics can ignore the lyrics that have copyright restrictions. Maybe add another source?

"Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions from some of the major music publishers we can no longer return lyrics through the LyricWiki?? API (where this application gets some or all of its lyrics)."

or can someone edit this script so that it only removes the lyrics that have the copyright message: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/ClearLyrics.txt

Comment by workage, Aug 22, 2009

Is there another source to try or some file I can change where it retrieves lyrics from? This affects the latest iTSfv 5.60 beta

Comment by Jarod73, Sep 01, 2009

how about http://lyricsfly.com they have an API @ http://lyricsfly.com/api/

this website also has a lot of resources to use! http://blog.programmableweb.com/2008/02/21/25-music-apis/

I'm interested in helping. I'm a newbie (as far as posting / updating comments and code)... Can someone tell me why the source d/l's haven't been updated (i.e. why the need to navigate to FAQs to get the latest source)? I, obviously, haven't completely read terms / conditions. I stumbled upon this after searching for a lyrics updated for Windows and since I'm a developer I'm inquiring. Thx.
