The Homebrew Mobile Phone Club is a collection of enthusiasts that are building our own mobile phones. Using off the shelf parts with custom enclosures and PCB, we're building one of a kind creations that meet our own requirements.

We're attempting to reuse as much software as possible, including libgsmc, various linux distros, gstreamer, OSS, etc. But there are a few components we're having to build ourselves.

The Jowles user interface, for example, is an application accessed via a cgi-bin interface. It defines a DTD for XML to control and query the state of a GSM module via libgsmc. This allows people to control their mobile device via their web browser. Ideally the web browser in question would be on the phone itself, but if you're debugging, you might just want to plug it in to your PC.
