Introduction

Team Foundation Server(TFS) is a Microsoft application framework used to manage teams working on group projects. It includes source control, build, reporting and ticking services. The Visual Studio Team Foundation Server Hackystat Sensor is a web service application that combines the Eventing Service provided by TFS along with the TFS API to intercept, extract and record development information sent through Team Foundation Server in near real-time. This information is then processed and sent to a Hackystat database for further analysis by other tools in the Hackystat Framework.

By creating a Hackystat sensor which will collect development process data for the VS Team Foundation Server, developers and team leaders would be able to utilize all the information gained throughout a project to their advantage. Instead of simply viewing the number of bugs fixed over time, they could use this information to identify common patterns that precede each bug. Developers could then use this information to better mold there individual design process. They could also use the information gained on previously similar projects to map out better development timelines for future ones.
