About Habu
Habu is the name I have chosen to replace the Okopipi Thunderbird extension as well as the project name for a set of utilities to help fight spam. Please see the ToDo for more information on what is planned for Habu.
Where the name comes from
A Habu is any of four species of venomous snakes found in the Ryūkyū Islands, Japan. If you are interested more information can be found in wikipedia.
Why the rename
While it is unfortunate, I think the Okopipi project is dead. The owners of that project have vanished. I wanted a project page and group that I could control. Since the person who controlled all that for Okopipi vanished it forced me to select a new name.
Why I chose this name
The Habu snake is a deadly little survivor. The Japanese brought in the Mongoose in 1910 in an effort to get rid of the Habu. However the Habu has not only survived, but thrived even with this fearsome snake hunter. If one is bitten by the Habu, it is excruciatingly painful and fatalities were not rare. Since spammers seem able to kill the frogs, lets see how they do against the Habu.
Habu is also the codename for the SR-71 Blackbird and her pilots.
What about the google groups
The Google groups I named of course after the project. The reason they are locked down like they are is to try to protect users as best as I can. Anyone can request an invite to the groups to post; be sure to include why you want to join. You have to be a member to even be able to read the groups, and some are moderated.
