@rbarkus, User friendly... I'de say it's really sue friendly.. No data migration is especially friendly. This seems pretty user oriented to me! As for the rest of the feature in Amahi, I can't yet comment.
Barkus is right, this would not be easy for a non techie, we are talking about WHS here which was targeted at non tech people. Many of us who used WHS also setup friends and family with it that would not want to go through command lines etc. We could use it ourselves, but for the masses this would not work.
It is the classic Windows / Linux battle, Windows being evil MS and super easy to use but not secure and Linux being the Angelic alternative, secure but still not user friendly for most people, it is only when Linux starts to realize this and create things more user friendly, especially with out command lines that Linux will really shine, I personally like both and I am not a fan boy of either but if I have to help a friend or family member with a software issue, I will not set them up with anything linux for sure (there area few exceptions like if someone wants a simple email only desktop or there is an excellent firewall app called Astaro that I have setup people with, but this is all GUI stuff).
I am hoping Ahami / GreyHole? "get this" and look to WHS v1 as a guide, this will make the migration easier, especially for those of us who would implement this for others.
I have been waiting for a linux implementation of Drive extender for a very long time. You've delivered, and have better features as well. Keep up the excellent work!
I just came from WHS to Amahi and have essentially no linux experience (but a fair bit of general geekiness with computers) and within about 2 hours I have my Amahi server doing almost everything I want it to do.
It's very, very easy to use, but it does require a little effort. The advantage is you can actually control how things work, and so forth. The disadvantage of course is you actually have to occasionally look at wikis and google.
Ignoring the GUI debate for now, to be a true replacement for WHS a product also needs to be able to backup the household PC's and laptops as well as doing a complete restore. That is something WHS does extremely well. Rebuilding a PC is a painful process. WHS makes it a breeze.
As for GUI or no GUI. Documentation and scripts can be used in place of a GUI.
I'll stick with WHS v1 until there is a better interface. This is not user friendly at all.
I'm so glad to have found this. I have been searching for an open-source solution to mimic the drive extender features in WHS. Great work!

This is great - I'm going to need a WHS replacement capable of managing my 10TB+
This would be a real winner as a WHS2011 add-in!
Is a windows version of this software even possible?
About Windows... Possible: probably. Probable: no.

I'll take Amahi over WHS any day.
