RawFormats
Updated Mar 10, 2012 by francois...@gmail.com

You can find here a list of supported RAW formats.

Since GPicSync use EXIFTool in its backend, RAW formats for which EXIFTool have read/write capabilities are (or could be) added to GPicSync.

RAW formats which should work for geocoding : cr2, crw, nef, pef, raw, rw2, orf, dng, raf, mrw

Please not that the preview thumbnail in GPicSync interface is not available for RAW formats.

If you have an issue or question about RAW format you can send me a mail here with one of your picture for testing (up to 20 Mo per mail).

I downloaded and ran for the first time today. When I shoot a photo both a JPG and an NEF are created. The GPS data (gpx) was written for the JPG files but nothing was in the GPS section of any of the NEF files. This message is written, but no data is in EXIF of the NEF files. (Found DSC_0111_926.NEF ...taken 2008-09-01-11:58:18, writing best latitude/longitude match to picture: N 40.135928333 ,W -105.106126667 : time difference (s)= 0 Geonames: Dominion Colorado United States (writing geonames and geotagged to keywords tag in picture EXIF)

Try with NEF files directly from your camera (ie which haven't been touched by another software yet). You can also try the last test version here (it will write in the picture EXIF even if ExifTool? reports a minor warning): http://francois.schnell.free.fr/gpicsync/temp/latest-build/

Just got a new Panasonic DMC-FX150 and it tags the jpgs, but not the RW2 files. They don't show up in the log at all. Is there some option that needs to be changed to process these?

RW2 seems to be a recent format. For now EXIFTool doesn't seem to support it yet, see table of "supported file types": http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

When/if EXIFtool will support it I'll add the RW2 extension. If you see it before me please remind me.

Is there any work progressing on Sony ARW raw format file recognition? I work with these files on my Sony A700 and can only geocode photos at present after converting them to Jpeg format.

Comment by project member francois...@gmail.com, Apr 6, 2009

Hi Ron, unfortunately it's not supported for writing yet by Exiftool http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

Thanks Francois. I look forward to the time that it is.

as it seems gpicsync still haven't support for tiff format images?

Great Program, thanks Francois. I am having an issue with raw formats. When I open the kml file from Google Earth instead of the CR2 picture I see a big red X. I have the feeling is a codec issue, but raw files open from the explorer. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Will this support NEF RAW with a Nikon D90 only? If I am in the NEF RAW only will it be supported? In the comments listed it will support JPEG and RAW. How about RAW only?

exiftool now supports panasonic's rw2 files, could we replace the exiftool in the distribution to support them?

Comment by project member francois...@gmail.com, Dec 24, 2011

I need to also add the detection of the rw2 files in gpicync.py itself. Adding it to my todo list (hopefully in few days).

Comment by project member francois...@gmail.com, Mar 10, 2012

It's been long to come but version 1.29 should support rw2 files too.

When will this program support sony's arw file?

Comment by project member francois...@gmail.com, May 19, 2012

Liu I've been adding Arw support to this test build, can you tell me if it works with your arw files? http://goo.gl/ecROZ
