OtherGeocodingSoftware

Geolocalization of contents is a fascinating phenomenon which is now growing quickly. If GPicSync doesn't suit your needs or you want to explore other paths you'll find here a a list of other geocoding/geotagging software.

If you know others (preferably Open Source or freeware) and what is interesting or particular about them please let me know so I can add them to the list. Note that I didn't test most of them so use them carefully and make backups.

In alphabetical order, available at least in English:

  • DGManager (Windows, .Net, Open Source, Google Maps Integrated)
  • GPS2Foto (Open Source, Perl script, command line)
  • GPSdings (Open Source, Java, command-line)
  • gpsPhoto (multiplateforme command line tool, Open Source)

  • GeoSetter (Windows, freeware, IPTC editor and Google maps)
  • Panorado flyer (Windows Freeware, don't use GPS files but manual geocoding or via GE)
  • Picopolo (Windows freeware, also for Image-Management)
  • Robogeo (Windows, commercial, lots of features)
  • TagMyJpgs (Windows, freeware, manual and Google Maps embedded geotaging, GPX feature should come soon)

In alphabetical order (not in English):

  • Fodysseus (Windows, German only?, commercial)
  • GPS Freeware (Windows Freeware, German only, edit also tracks)
  • GPX2KMZ (Windows, French, Open Source, doesn't write in EXIF but creates customized KMZ from GPX)

There is also gpsdings at http://gpstools.sf.net A GPLv3 Java command line tool for geo-referencing of digital photographs, GPX to Google Earth and Google Maps conversion, and general gpx track analysis.

A couple more: 1. DGManager. Excellent! Geocoding, Google Maps Integrated, Smart Track Generation (groups track points based on time differences between points), kml output. http://sourceforge.net/projects/dgmanager-net/

2. GPS to kml, creates customized kmz from NMEA logs or GPX, includes pictures, does not geocode the images. http://www.claudegps.altervista.org/index_e.htm

GeoSetter? for Windows (http://www.geosetter.de/en/index.html) - freeware, automatic or manual geocoding using embedded Google Maps map and NMEA or GPX track files

Thanks polnjumen, I didn't know about GeoSetter? which looks great (also it seems EXIFTool can be used in a closed source software?).
