GooglePortlet
The initial version is available for download. Go to the Installation Page for instructions on how to install this portlet. You can sign up for the e-mail list listed on the MailingList page to discuss this Portlet. As this project gets more exposure, or I get more creative, the Portlet will continue to evolve. It is also my hope that by being hosted on Google code, is that any changes or improvements made to the Goolge APIs can be more easily incorporated into a Portlet designed to interact with their namesake search engine. I created this project, after doing an extensive search on the Internet for any CURRENT JSR 168 compliant Google search portlet. I could not find a current implementation. The versions I found used an old API that has been end-of-lifed by Google (the SOAP web services API). I think it is a very common need to have Google search capabilities in your Portal. I would even be ok, if Google wanted to take complete ownership of this project, as long as the result was a JSR 168 compliant Portlet. My initial design will be a simple JSP implementation supporting a portlet preference for entering in the key. It's mostly based on the resulting HTML Google provides when you generate a key. Follow this URL to see of what the initial implementation is based on. |
