What stopping us from including spring libraries as part of .war file & deploy on 
current java appengine runtime?

I didn't use Spring MVC but other stuff like the IOC container itself, JPA templates, 
transaction templates, PlatformTransactionManager seems to be working fine for me.

Spring 3.0M3 works fine in GAE.

This issue was filed long before Java support was launched.  As has been noted above, Spring works with App 
Engine.  If you see specific incompatibilities, please file a new bug with the Language-Java label.
