Create a logo for Gendarme #60

Gendarme [1,2] is in need of a distinctive logo. Wikipedia [3] can provide
answers for what's a Gendarme (french version will be more complete, e.g.
for pictures).

Logo must:
* be in vector-based, e.g. in SVG or XAML format
* must be related to Mono [4]
* must be related to the Gendarmerie

A valid example would be:
* creating a SVG file based on the Mono project logo and adding a kepi[5]
to the monkey head.

The tasks should take between 2-5 days, including (at least) one day to
make some corrections based on comments.

here is one idea, based off the example, I added the kepi to the monkey, with a
black
stripe and gold medal to symbolize the engineering department of the gendarme,
and
wrote gendarme across the front, including the mono title still on bottom.
Here is a
medium quality version attached. For the full version, is there a place I
could get
the svg file of the mono logo?

You should be able to get the SVG from here
http://anonsvn.mono-project.com/viewcvs/*checkout*/trunk/mcs/ScalableMonoIcon.sv
g

Notes:

* good thinking about the "engineering department" :-)

* IMO the monkey face, not the rest mono logo, is important (which is nice
since it's
not part of the SVG I linked ;-). Feel free to experiment around it;

* the kepi seems too small versus the head. Kepi are generally large, so I
think it
should cover a bigger area. Maybe the monkey's ear could be outside, like De
Gaulle
in this picture ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:De_Gaulle-OWI.jpg

* the gendarme text is nice, but it cover too much the logo (well the face).
maybe it
could replace the mono title ? at a smaller, but not horizontal, angle ?

Thanks!
Sebastien

Here is an updated one, in SVG. I don't like my SVG editor, because i can't
merge
shapes, oh well. Please comment and I will clean up more. Thanks!

Nice :) but I still think the kepi is a bit too small, it's doesn't seems to fit
"comfortably" the (big) monkey head.

Looking at the logo using eog I notice that the monkey head is transparent. This
makes it strange wrt to the kepi. Maybe the colored background should be
inversed -
in a way that the head won't be transparent ?

The older gendarme font (or is it just capitalization ?) looked better. It
could also
be transparent and a bit over the monkey. It would also be cool if it looked a
bit
more like a stamp (ink) - but I got *no* clue on how to do any of that ;-)

Thanks!

I made the hat transparent, and a little bigger, too. I don't know what you
mean by
ink-like. I will put it a little over the monkey, and change it to the font i
used
in the png version.

By ink-stamp I meant [1] rather than [2]

I was more thinking about the monkey being non-transparent (than the kepi being
transparent) but I'm curious about the results.

Yeah, I knew what you mean about ink-stamp rather than stamp, but i wasn't sure
what
u thought made it look like that - the picture helped. I will try to do that.
I
ended up making the monkey opaque because I put a bg behind the "gandarme-mono"

wow :) much nicer!!!

I think the Gendarme box would be nicer, or inker, if the round-box was thicker
and
maybe the text a bit too... also the small caps 'g' was maybe looking better

since the kepi has a stroke around it, I wonder if (or how it would look) if the
monkey face had one too...

again wow, we're very close :)

Ok, here is another change - i added a blur effect to the stamp, maybe its too
hard
to read, but i think it looks stampy. I added the border around the monkey,
too.
That was a good suggestion, it looks much nicer.

Sorry for the delay, I wanted some feedback by some people that weren't online

still aren't ;-) but I don't want to block you from other tasks since I like
your
logo a lot :-)

Closing task
