Remove old icons from gnome-desktop
Benefits: better icons, make things easier to maintain Requirements: having a svn checkout of gnome-desktop and gnome-icon-theme
The gnome-desktop module installs some icons in /usr/share/pixmaps. Those icons are mostly old icons and duplicate of icons shipped by gnome-icon-theme that are installed in /usr/share/icons.
The goal is to identify, when possible, for each icon of gnome-desktop a relevant icon in gnome-icon-theme which can replace the gnome-desktop icon.
For example, gnome-image-gif.png (in gnome-desktop) should be replaced by image-x-generic (in gnome-icon-theme).
Additionnaly, an initial patch to gnome-icon-theme to install symbolic links from /usr/share/pixmaps to the gnome-icon-theme icon can be made.

Posted on Nov 30, 2007 by Massive BirdHi! Vincent asked me to take a look at this. The list looks good, although I would "gnome-html: web-browser" to use text-html instead, as the gnome-gif and gnome-jpg imply that all three have been used for mimetypes.

Posted on Nov 30, 2007 by Grumpy PandaLooks like a good start. The gnome-icon-theme is probably not the best way to do it, though: I think we want a symbolic link from /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/something/iconname.png to /usr/share/pixmaps/iconname.png.
It turns out most of the icons are not installed in 48x48 size, and directly to svg, though. Hrm. Well, that's not your fault.
You've done what was asked, so marking as completed. If you want to continue on this a bit (and you're more than welcome to do so), some icons like gnome-diskfree can be replaced by other icons (generally, app icons and in this case, the baobab one).
Thanks, and congratulations!

Posted on Dec 1, 2007 by Quick DogHi andreasn.pixel, to me, gnome-html looks more like a web browser than a HTML file, but I admit that it could mean both. So for which option should we go?

Posted on Dec 1, 2007 by Quick DogAdditional icons: gnome-note: http://library.gnome.org/skin/admon-note.png gnome-set-time: gnome-panel-clock gnome-diskfree: baobab gnome-tourist-info: gnome-panel-notification-area? http://library.gnome.org/skin/ admon-tip.png? That´s all I could find.
I unfortunately forgot to delete gnome-house and gnome-html in the patch.

Posted on Dec 3, 2007 by Massive BirdHi k.philipp. Yeah, that one is tricky. I would go for html file. What do you think Vuntz?
