google-highly-open-participation-gnome - issue #22
Identify obsolete project webpages
Benefits: Get up-to-date project webpages
Requirements: -
GNOME hosts many different projects and their project webpages. As some projects miss manpower, it's more likely that people put their power into writing code instead of updating webpages. Read through the project webpages and make a list of issues that are wrong, obsolete, or out-dated.

Posted on Nov 29, 2007 by Massive PandaHow detailed should i be getting for these sites? Am I looking for a general lack of negligence, and just reporting that, or should i be citing specific examples? Here's an example of the format and detail I am doing at the moment:
Project: Anjuta Status: Good Condition Last Update: November 2, 2007 Issues: A. On the Hacking page(http://anjuta.sourceforge.net/hacking) 1.Under Resources, the CVS snapshots link either no longer exists(moved elsewhere?) or is broken.(http://www.anjuta.org/cvs/) 2. Under Messages and Translations, the GNOME Style Guide link does not exist(http://developer.gnome.org/documents/style-guide/)
there are other sites with many more problems, which ive documented with letters(for the page), and then numbers(for the problem) in an outline type of view.
Is this a good start?

Posted on Dec 5, 2007 by Massive Pandahi, im not going to be able to finish this project in the alotted amount of time. My isp(bellsouth) was having dns server issues all day yesterday, making it impossible for me to get anything done. Also, ive been bogged down with a tonne of homework, and i just don't have the time to finish this(in 7 days)
is it possible to get a time extension?
if not, i thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on this project, attatched is what I was able to get done.

Posted on Dec 5, 2007 by Swift Wombathow much additional time do you need? if it's less than 7 days, it's not a problem.

Posted on Dec 15, 2007 by Quick LionHere is a list of dead links on the GNOME projects site. It was generated by the checklink perl module (and trimmed down somewhat). Note that the lines which say "To do: You should update the link." redirect ok, and don't have to be changed.
Next I'll move on to checking the pages that link ok for accuracy.

Posted on Dec 18, 2007 by Quick LionSorry, I am not going to be able to finish this task. My PreCalculus teacher sprung a huge test on us, and I need time to study. The dead links are above, good luck to whoever takes the task next.

Posted on Dec 18, 2007 by Happy Wombat@jesseblehman, what a pity. Re-opening then.

Posted on Dec 18, 2007 by Happy PandaI am currently appending to the (excellent) work of rabid, but since I know I will not be able to complete this task any time soon (with finals and christmas), I will not claim it. But when I am done or someone does make the claim, I will be happy to upload my progress.

Posted on Dec 20, 2007 by Happy Pandathanks! If its not too much trouble, would u mind emailing me when/if some changes to the projects page get made? I'd love to know that my contribution was actually useful

Posted on Sep 29, 2008 by Swift WombatHej hej element3260, Urgh, the bad things about Open Source projects is that things take time... too much time... :-/ Sorry for being quite late. Mats Taraldsvik was kind enough to transfere your list into a wikipage at http://live.gnome.org/ModuleMaintenanceWorkspaces/ProjectWebsiteStatus so it's easier to update the status and say "I'm working on this". Now next step is to attract folks to work on those issues...
