Benefits: Push those languages that had a perfect translation and are now losing ground Requirements: Speaking Nepali; basic SVN knowledge, a text editor In those 12 months between GNOME 2.14 and 2.18, some languages with more than 50% User Interface (UI) translation have lost quite a lot. Obviously, these languages miss manpower and need a push. Get the po files for the the following modules of the affected language and update them to 100% translated strings: libgnome, libgnomeui and half of the untranslated/fuzzy gtk+ strings (otherwise it will be too much work) Fulfilling this task means that you will translate about 350-450 strings. Before doing so, contact the Translation team leader to announce your work and to avoid duplicated work. hi mukeshmodi.np, welcome on board! please keep us informed on the process, and ask if you have any problems or questions! after contacting the Nepali team leader Pawan Chitrakar in order to inform him about your work, you will probably visit http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/ne/gnome-2-22, save the po files of the listed projects to your disk, choose a translation tool (for example gtranslator or kbabel) and after that you can start translating. (i can also recommend http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/translator.html for some advanced information, but that guide is a bit outdated and uses cvs instead of svn.) looking forward to seeing your results!

I would like to know about the duration of the task. |

should be really fair to get that done in one week. you can already start translating while waiting for an answer of the nepali coordinator. |

I am unable to contact nepali coordinator Mr. Pawan Chitrakar. His email listed on http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/ne gives me a delivery failure notice. And don't I need to register for SVN access and translation. |

sigh, i expected this problem with at least some of the languages we have added to the Google HOP contest. Okay: Please send an email to the gnome-i18n@gnome.org translators mailing list, explaining about the problem that the coordinator is unresponsive (well - your email bounced, that's even worse!), and also CC the coordinator to your email (in this case it's pretty useless, but it's the policy we have). Nevertheless, you can and should of course continue to translate. :) Just as a warning: You will perhaps be asked if you want to be the new Nepali coordinator instead. ;-) You don't have to care about the SVN access, other folks can always help out and commit your results to SVN so they will be included in the next version of GNOME. |

andre.klapper, i am afraid that I didn't mail to the gnome-i18n@gnome.org translators mailing list about the problem. Anyways, I have been doing the translations as was required.I have already completed translations of libgnome and libgnomeui. But I am finding gtk+ too bulky. Anyways, I am still doing that to my level best. I am attaching translated libgnome and libgnomeui files. |

hi mukeshmodi.np, > i am afraid that I didn't mail to the gnome-i18n@gnome.org translators > mailing list about the problem. no problem that you haven't done, but i would still appreciate if you could do that. :) thanks for the two files (with 43 new strings), they bring the nepali translation of the two affected files back to 100%! please try your best for gtk+, i know it is hard, but as you don't have to translate all of it but only approximately 300 strings, you can pick up the strings you like ;-) the current nepali statistics for 2.22 say that gtk+ has 329 fuzzy and 468 untranslated strings, as i wrote in the description this task is about translating 350-450 strings, so i'm fine if you reduce the number of fuzzy+untranslated strings by about 300 in total. can you please also file one bug report GNOME's bugzilla at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=L10N&component=Nepali%20[ne] , and attach the three files to that report once you are done, and then add the link to the bug report here in google's tracker? thanks a lot for your work, andre |

Andre.klapper, I have done the translation of gtk+ to the extent I could. And it was so enjoyable that I went on doing more than what was required for this task. I have translated gtk+.gtk-2-12.ne.po to a good extent. However, the progress for gtk+-properties.HEAD.ne.po has not been much. I have reduced the count of fuzzy to 220 and untranslated to 159. I hope my translation effort is sufficient to get them included in SVN for future use. But I am sorry to state that I have not used Bugzilla ever. I created an account and found the bug reporting page in the URL provided by you. But I could not find a place to attach files. So, didn't report the bug to them. So, I am attaching the translated file in a compressed .tar.gz form here of two new files. I request you to do me the favor of reporting these files to Bugzilla. However, if you still want me to do it myself, please let me know how to attach files. I will do that myself. |

awesome, thanks so much for your work! gtk's UI translations changed from (486/89/338) to (883/0/30) marking this task as completed, "over-complete". :) so if you have some time, i ask you for three things (if not, i can also do these): 1) report a bug in gnome bugzilla and attach the three files (in gnome bugzilla, you can only attach files *after* adding a bug report), and add the link here. 2) send an email to gnome-i18n@gnome.org that the coordinator is unresponsive. 3) add your name, email address and year to the headers of the po files. of course we would love to see more translations, if you have interest and some time, and once we have resolved the coordinator problem. again: thanks!

andre, thanks for the appreciation and encouragement. I have done all the three tasks that you asked me to do. I have added the details in the header, reported the gnome bugzilla team and sent mail to gnome-i18n@gnome.org. The mail to gnome-i18n@gnome.org is awaiting moderator's approval. The bug report in bugzilla can be reached at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503532 And definitely, I would love to contribute more to localization of open source in Nepali Language. thanks. |

mukeshmodi, if you don't have other gnome tasks to do, have a look there: http://code.google.com/p/google-highly-open-participation-moinmoin/issues/detail?id=93 (if it is already claimed, add a comment so we can create another task of that type) |
