Great idea! There's an issue with the Typepad converter: standard Typepad export does not give you the permalinks so you will lose all your pages in Google.

I've written some detailed instructions about how to keep your permalinks when moving from Typepad to Wordpress. You do need to use a custom template from a Pro account though.

this is freakin' impossible for a non techie. Is there any way for a real person to download a large wordpress blog to blogger?

Comment by rachelwa...@gmail.com, Jul 30, 2009

I agree, there's no instructions for people who don't automatically know how to do this stuff. I don't need an easier program, I would just like some step-by-step instructions so I'm not floundering so much.

I concurr. I've been unsuccessfully dealing with this for over a week now, I've installed Python, I've set the path directory correctly and every time I run the program to convert from Wordpress to Blogger I get all these errors and mumbo jumbo. Don't take it bad, but I don't have the knowledge, nor the time, neither the will to become an IT technician just to port my blog into another platform. I'm not computer illiterate, it's not that I don't know where the power switch is located, I'm just not interested in getting knee-deep into this. It would be nice if readmes would include a simple step-by-step guide on how to do the thing for the rest of the world who's not a professional and doesn't want to become one.

I'm sure the instructions are wonderful if you know how to use Python, but for the rest of us, they might as well be written in greek :(

Doesn't help me at all. There must be an easier way to do this.

Comment by nodomuta...@gmail.com, May 6, 2010

If using the Livejournal convertors the Syntax is: ./bin/livejournal2blogger.sh -u <username> -p <password> > output.xml

Comment by eric.sta...@gmail.com, Jul 30, 2011

Can someone who has been successful at converting a large blogger blog to Wordpress leave a couple of step by step instructions? I too have spent hours reading what is out there with no success. I have no clue what script I am supposed to run in Python.....

Comment by dan.ty...@gmail.com, Jan 3, 2012

ditto. I've been using and writing about computers for more than a decade and this stuff is gibberish to me -- yet typical of how google operates. why is there no simple conversion utility that automates all of this garbage? clueness in mountain view -- again.
