Go Bible for Android phones
Featured
Updated Oct 23, 2009 by DFH...@gmail.com

Introduction

I have discovered that it is possible to convert any Java ME application to an Android package file APK, using a free online converter called GetAPK.

Details

One of my colleagues has tested this for a few Go Bible applications in a number of different languages, with a considerable degree of success. He wrote,

It's not perfect, it sometimes hangs if you run multiple copies of the program at once, the font is rather cruddy, but it does work. You need to install the J2ME Runner application on the phone but the program prompts you when you don't have it. The small icon compared to the normal sized Android icon is a minor issue.

I have therefore converted the KJV Go Bible to KJV.apk for the benefit of a wider number of potential users. This is a useful interim solution for getting free Bibles onto Android phones.

For this and a bit more, with a couple of images, see Go Bible for Android phones on the team blog.

On an HTC android Tattoo 1.6...KJV go bible. that GetAPK do change it to an APK but it will not work, when you try to run it it tells you to get J2ME Runner on your phone and that also dont work, so

"We have been informed that Go Bible should work OK if you install the Esmertec Java Virtual Machine called Jbed. This product is available from Myriad Group, formed by the merger of Esmertec and Purple Labs. See http://www.myriadgroup.com/

See also http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/J2ME_Programming/Esmertec_Jbed "

STILL DO NOT WORK, please make a prober one for androids phones we are many that misses our bible on our phones....

The Go Bible project has insufficient resources to allocate to Android development projects.

The CrossWire Bible Society is developing a proper SWORD front-end application for the Android OS. See http://www.crosswire.org/wiki/Current_Projects#Android_platform

Converting JavaME applications to the Android platform (revisited)

The author of MicroEmulator, Bartek Teodorczyk in Oslo, Norway, has posted a guide to converting Java ME apps to the Android platform.

Hey guys, the apk really works. I'm currently using it on android 2.1 and so far no problems. It has more customizing features like font size, screen size, orientation etc. The 'search' and "Go to" features are functioning well. My only displeasure about the Go Bible KJV for android is that it has relatively small app icon compared with other android apps. I would say that's no problem at all because the app works fine. Note: The Java Runtime is needed to make this app work on android.
