About Us

GO-Elite is an open-source software project principally run by developers in the Bruce Conklin laboratory at the J. David Gladstone Institutes and the University of California San Francisco. GO-Elite has been developed as a component of the GenMAPP suite of applications. The focus of GO-Elite is to provide biologists with an easy to use tool to assess over-representation of Gene Ontology terms and pathways from genomics datasets. Beyond over-representation analysis (ORA), GO-Elite identifies a minimal set of non-redundant Gene Ontology terms, allows users to efficiently identify genes associated with each term and customize queries. GO-Elite is funded by an NIH RO1 grant (ARRA Suppl. GM080223-06S1).

GO-Elite provides annotations for nearly any species (over 50 species supported) or gene system, with the ability to easily add species and gene system support. GO-Elite's default database supports all gene systems provided by the Ensembl database, including various microarray manufacturers (Affymetrix, CodeLink, Illumina, Agilent). In addition to a stand-alone program, GO-Elite has an accessible web-interface, webservice and a plugin for the program Cytoscape. If you would like to contribute to GO-Elite development or to the documentation on this site, we welcome your contributions.
