This bug was happening on my site that uses GMaps, but I was able to repro
it easily on maps.google.com as well. To repro:

1) Go to
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41.574361,-101.25&spn=48.411983,79.101563&t=h&z=4http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41.574361,-101.25&spn=48.411983,79.101563&t=h&z=4
.

2) Switch to satellite view if not already set.

3) Using the slider, zoom all the way in. You will see, as expected,
tiles that say there is no image.

4) Click on the minus button to zoom out one level, where there should be
imagery. You will see no tiles whatsoever and no error message tiles.
Keep pressing the minus button to zoom out one level at a time. You will
have to zoom out all the way to level 4 or so to get tiles back.

5) Now that you've gotten tiles back zoom back in using the plus button,
going one zoom level at a time. Notice that all of the blank zoom levels
now have tiles. Also notice that the final zoom level is now blank and no
longer has the error tiles.

I repro'ed this on both FF3/Mac and IE7/XP. Thanks!

Oops. Sorry for the double paste. The url is obviously
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41.574361,-101.25&spn=48.411983,79.101563&t=h&z=4

Changing status of "Accepted" issues to "Acknowledged", to clarify their
state.

We may not be able to resolve all bugs or fulfill all feature requests, but
we do thank you for filing them, and we will continually revisit all
acknowledged issues and evaluate their feasibility. Thanks!

Status: Acknowledged

There was some confusion with the change from the "Accepted" status to the
"Acknowledged" status, and some developers took that to mean that their bug
was being downgraded. This was only a wording change, not a priority
change. We are still working on fixing many bugs (particularly the
regression bugs), so a fix for your bug may still be coming in the future.

After a discussion in the forum, we will now use "Confirmed" instead of
"Acknowledged". This status indicates that we have verified the bug,
reported it internally, and it is included in the list of bugs that we
review each week (when determining what to fix next).

It looks to me like this no longer happens, by the way.
