gmail-notifier

Current stable version is 0.4.5. Visit the Downloads section to download a copy.

If you have a question or suggestions, please consider posting in our GMail Notifier Discussion Group.

Introduction

gmail-notify is a cooler looking gmail notification client for Ubuntu 9.04+. It uses the latest Ubuntu 9.04 notification system for displaying mail notifications. The design is inspired by the the Mac OS X based gmail notification tool.

The program uses the gmail atom feeds for mail notifications and provides direct links to e-mails and inbox.

You can find a screen-shot of what the notifier looks like here.

Features

I wanted to keep the design of the notifier simple and elegant, without too many options. Here are some of the features of the program:

  • Mac OS X style gmail notifier.
  • Uses the gmail atom feed for e-mail notifications.
  • Uses the new Ubuntu Notification system for displaying notifications (awesome looking).
  • Direct access to inbox and individual e-mails.
  • Ability to disable notifications.
  • Configurable delay periods for checking new mails and mails display.
  • Audio notifications.
  • A simple update notifier.

Installation

Download the .deb package to your desktop and double click on it. The GDebi package installer will take over. Click the "Install Package" button to install the package.

The program will be available under Applications -> Internet -> GMail Notifier menu option.
