Introduction

Easily add GPS tags to JPEG images from GPS tracking device data.

Details

The motivation to write GeoTagImages was, to add GPS properties to JPEG images AS EASY AS POSSIBLE. Thus programs like PICASA may display the locations where the images had been taken.

Program features:

  • Once a local GPS data folder had been specified, GPS data from WINTEC WBT202 or GARMIN GPX devices are downloaded automatically if the program is running and the GPS devices (USB) are plugged in.

  • Drag & drop support for image folders dragged from explorer to the desktop shortcut or to the working area of the running program.
  • If you drop an image folder to the desktop shortcut, the program starts, reads all JPEG image properties of this folder, downloads the current GPS data (if the GPS device had been plugged in before) and computes the GPS locations of each image from the nearest GPS trackpoints.

  • As images and GPS data are synchronized by date and time, the time offset between camera and GPS time may be adjusted either manually (seconds, time zone) or by dragging the mouse pointer from a cell containing GPS data (e.g. a WINTEC WBT202 start marker) to a cell containing the image taken at this time.

  • If camera and GPS items are synchronized, the GPS coordinates displayed in the working area of the program may easily be written to all images by clicking the second menu button from the left.
  • To preserve the original images, they are copied to the path .\.picasaoriginals\orig before creating the tagged ones.
  • If connected to the internet you may check the GPS locations of one ore more images by doubleclicking the image cells of interest displaying the GPS locations by means of the Google Maps javascript API.
  • Furthermore the distances between two image locations are computed if you drag the mouse pointer from one image cell to another one.
  • If you prefer an own background image, you only have to replace Wallpaper.png by your own one.
  • Easy Multi-language support: If you want to support another language, simply make a copy of GeoTagImages_de.xml, replace "de" by your two-character national language code and replace the german strings within the xml dictionary. (Rebuilding the application is NOT necessary !)

Have fun !
