An informatics approach for near real-time monitoring of evolutionary trends in biological systems. We are building a prototype system that monitors changes in NCBI databases and presents compelling visualizations, in near real time, of how gene, genomes, and lineages are evolving over space and time. When complete our system will provide a set of tools and information products usable by a wide audience of consumers. Users will be able to select a taxon and have our system harvest the existing data from genetic repositories. Those data will be aligned and phylogenetic hypotheses automatically produced. By tying locality data of the sequence data to the phylogeny, we can project phylogentic hypotheses onto a virtual global producing a sharable geophylogeny. |
