Publishing Framework

The Global Names Architecture requires effective data exchange formats and protocols and tools and infrastructure for their deployment.

  • Create and promote a unified data exchange standard for exchanging semantic and syntactic information about names.
  • Provide tools and infrastructure that support the publication, discovery, and exchange of taxonomic data.
    • Global Biodiversity Resources Discovery system serves as a registry for taxonomic data resources
    • The GBIF Checklist Bank index of published resources enables discovery and access to record level taxononomic and nomenclatural information
    • The GBIF Harvesting and Indexing Toolkit provides the tools necessary to access and import taxonomic data into a local data store.

Indexing and Cross-Referencing

Information about species requires tools, services, and stable, unique identifiers to be effectively reconciled and tied to the GNA taxonomic framework
