Checklist Bank Lexical Editor

In addition to the public tools above an internal management tool has been build. Checklist Bank is an index of multiple published taxonomic resources. Many of these resources publish references to the same taxon that may have been acquired from different sources. As a result, the same taxon name, particularly if it cites authorship, may be represented differently in the different datasets. Botanical authors, for example, may be recorded in abbreviated or complete form. Checklist Bank resources are indexed and displayed exactly as they are published with the result that different versions of the same name must be maintained in Checklist Bank. In order to manage this effectively, measures are taken to group similar names into orthographic or lexical groups. Algorithmic methods are employed to do this at scale but these may sometimes make mistakes.

The Checklist Bank Lexical Editor is installed at GBIF to manually curate lexical groups and provides the means to mediate groupings that may be incorrectly formed by the lexical grouping algorithm.
