• Requirements: Jailbroken iPhone and an active MyMeteor or MyO2 account.

• Over WiFi, all webtexts are completely free.

• Over EDGE, prices will vary, but should be less than standard charges for SMS (iPhone only).

• Message sending feature based on code from JSMS.

Enhanced Features

• Multi part SMS - large outgoing messages (greater than 160 characters) are split into multiple messages before sending.

• Self-CC option - automatically sends a copy of every outgoing message to your Meteor number.

• Retrieval of # of remaining messages - optional.

• Customisable contact list - if you already have free Meteor to Meteor texts, you may want to remove Meteor contacts from the Freeteor contact list, to avoid wasting your WebTexts. International and landline numbers can also be removed from the list.

• Message history with timestamps.

How do I Install Freeteor?

Use Installer.app

• Add http://myrepospace.com/repo/lackofcolour (case sensitive) to your sources and tap Refresh. Freeteor will show up in the lackofcolour - mRs category.

Alternatively:

1. Download the Freeteor.zip file from this site.
2. Use SSH to copy the Freeteor.app file into your iPhone's (or iPod's) /Applications/ directory. (Mac users should use CyberDuck, Windows users should use WinSCP).
3. Reboot your iPhone / iPod and the Freeteor icon should appear on your SpringBoard.

How do I set up my Contacts?

• Uses separate contact list to the iPod / iPhone's contact list.
• This allows users to customize their list to reflect their mobile contacts only.

Mac

1. Open Address Book and Ctrl-Click on All.
2. Click on Export Group VCard and save the file as Freeteor.
3. Use an app like CyberDuck to SSH to your iPhone / iPod (Open a new SFTP connection to your iPod / iPhone's WiFi IP address, using root as username and alpine as password).
4. Copy the Freeteor.vcf file to the following location: /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/

Windows

1. Windows users will need to download and install a third-party plugin for Outlook / Outlook Express that will export all contacts in a VCard file : http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=freeware+outlook+export+vcf&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
2. Use an app like WinSCP to SSH to your iPhone / iPod (Open a new connection to your iPod / iPhone's WiFi IP address, using root as username and alpine as password).
3. Copy the Freeteor.vcf file to the following location: /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/

Known Issues

• Use over EDGE can be slow, depending on connection and availability of the Meteor/O2 website.

• After EDGE usage, incoming SMS messages might be delayed. A quick workaround for this is to simply make a call (e.g. 171 for voicemail) and hang up. Messages will then arrive as expected.

• Freeteor sometimes hangs on app startup. Fixed in v0.6

Proposed Improvements

• Support for 02 and Vodafone websites. O2 Support available from v0.7 and later

• Retrieval of remaining message count from the Meteor server. Added to v0.6

• Improve the GUI.
