DivX web player just sits there saying "connecting..." on the mac.
Comment 1 by Byron.ad...@gmail.com, May 14, 2007
why not let the user steam the video in an external client like vlc?
Comment 2 by hatsmagee, May 14, 2007
Hi Byron,
VLC has a bug that it doesn't stream from URLs that have @'s in them, which is what
the streamable URL has. We could remove the @ requirement, but would rather get the
divx web player to work, as it is easier and quicker to install and works well, at
least on windows.

Have you had any luck with getting the divx web player to play any divx videos on the
mac? Last time we tried it didn't work even for simple plain web-hosted divx avis
such as: http://he.fi/video/conan-halonen.avi

You can try by installing FoxTorrent and telling the player page to view it:
http://127.0.0.1:9421/rsui/0/player.html?url=http://he.fi/video/conan-halonen.avi

Thanks,
Tom.

Summary: DivX web player doesn't play on Mac and linux, and google MP3 player doesn't work on linux

The divx web player is broken for the mac. That's great. It's not foxtorrent, its the
divx player itself. Stage6 doesn't work on the mac. See this:
http://stage6.divx.com/forum/718/3682/

Once the divx team solve this problem, avi streaming on the mac should work.

Just to throw in my two pence, divx ~does~ work in Linux, at least in my fresh
install of Ubuntu. Simply got the gstreamer bad, ugly and ffmpeg packages and totem
opens in the firefox window, streaming the video as if nothing could be simpler.

Just so you know...

Oh awesome, so it does work in linux sometimes!
Does the MP3 player work as well?
Thanks!

Now only if the divx webplayer worked on mac..

The size and bloat of the required (?) divx player is suspect. Why can't I use my
choice of divx/avi players?

for some reason, I can't post in the google group for foxtorrent. I've tried
everything I can think of to stream under windows xp. I've tried reinstalling all
the components (ie firefox, divx, etc) to no avail. I also run linux, and there's no
issue. Mplayer works just fine in firefox for streaming in linux. I can't get
mplayer to take over in firefox under windows. I've tired setting the different
associations in both windows and firefox. Am I the only one with this issue. I
would be a lot less agitated if I could have been able to post in google groups. I
was dealing with an avi file, but i know the divx player can handle avi just fine. I
also tried the link above, but I think it might be dead. I have been able to stream
stage6, w/o issue, when it was open.

update, if I select the actual hidden file of the torrent being downloaded, and play
it with a player (mplayer in this case) I can stream the file, just not in firefox,
and only as a stand alone player. certainly a roundabout method, but oh well.
