When you have undocked firebug (opened in new window), and you are on the HTML tab, it would be good to be able to click a new button and switch to a vertical layout - ie html on top and css underneath.

Once changed to verical layout, the button would change to one to indicate a change back to the horizontal layout (HTML Left, CSS right)

If possible, Layout should be maintained after redocking and undocking.
ie undocked: vertical layout, redock firebug: horizontal layout, undock firebug again it would still be in vertical layout.

I have attached an image of how i would imagin the icons on the buttons to look like with the relevant tool tip. Please excuse the crude graphics - I only has ms paint to hand!

TEST
Open FireBug
Open FireBug in New Window - uses last used layout
Click Layout button - changes to other layout/button
Click Layout button - changes to other layout/button

I believe this option is probably not used often enough to create a button for it, that takes more space. Though I could be wrong.

Shouldn't this option be synchronised between attached and detached mode?
At least currently it is working as you described, though due to a bug:
1. While Firebug is attached enable the option "Vertical Panes".
2. Detach Firebug

=> The panels are still shown in horizontal layout even when the option is enabled. Same happens the other way round changing the option while Firebug being detached and re-attaching the window.

The option is synchronized now, i.e. it's working the same way in attached and detached mode.

Though since Firebug can now be positioned at the sides of the browser window it makes more sense to allow the preference to be different for attached and detached mode.

Test case for what is described above:
1. Open Firebug on this page
2. Switch to the HTML panel
3. Detach Firebug
4. Check the option Firebug Menu > Options > Vertical Panels While Detached (not existing yet)
=> The UI alignment should change, so that the side panels are at the bottom.
5. Attach Firebug again
=> The side panels should be at the right again.
6. Detach Firebug again
=> The side panels should be at the bottom again.

Issue 6097 has a related discussion, which may make this issue obsolete.

Sebastian
Summary: Allow "Vertical Panels" option to be different for attached and detached mode (was: Un-docked Firebug layout)
