* A TEST CASE (yes, no matter how trivial)
* detailed STEPS TO REPRODUCE the issue

Please copy the instructions into your test case page and add the issue
number to the file name, e. g. issue25 .html.

What is the expected result? What do you see instead?
Expected: Full JSON that parses properly
Actual Result: The JSON is malformed and adds an ellipses at a seemingly random point. (In this case most often on an x or y attribute).

Which version of Firebug? (more specific than 'latest' please):
Firebug version: 1.6.2
Tested in Firefox: 3.6.15, 4.0RC
OS: Windows XP SP3

Big attribute values are automatically cropped so, they don't take to much HTML panel space.

You can set extensions.firebug.displayedAttributeValueLimit to -1 to avoid the limit.

Anyway, I think that Firebug could perhaps detect the JSON value and display it as an expandable tree (just like the Net panel does it for HTTP JSON responses).

Not sure how this would look like in the UI though.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the test case, committed at R9617

Thanks for the fix! I was getting frustrated copying and pasting the JSON value and it being incomplete.

Maybe have a new tab on the right side pane to represent "data" alone (any "data-attribute"), especially since HTML5 data attributes seem to only be gaining ground?
Using the DOM tab isn't as intuitive/quick.

I agree the UI becomes too busy w/out this limit though (even 1024 is a bit much).

I believe this could have two UI enhancements:
1. An infotip when hovering the attribute inside the HTML panel showing the JSON as tree structure
2. Display the JSON as expandable tree inside the DOM panel, though still make sure the user sees from the first sight that it's stored as string.

I changed the summary of this issue to cover this part.

For this part I created issue 6364.

Summary: Add formatted infotip for JSON attributes (was: html5 data attribute doesn't properly parse JSON in firebug inspector)
