Then I work with fbug I often user three tabs: console, script, html.
And often I switch between them (often clicking by tabs).

And some times I need to search js code by source to set break point on it.

Now I must switch to script tab before search js. I must remember witch tab is currently open before search. It will be great do cross tabs search if no result on current tab.

Use case:
1. Open
2. Open fbug.
3. Open HTML tab.
4. Past "Copyright 2009" in search. No entry is found.

But what if fbug can search "Copyright 2009" in scripts and switch tab if it is found there?
What you fink?

What about just remembering the search string like described in issue 958 ?
Could be very confusing, if your search string is found in several panels...

In general Firebug search is search through live objects, not through source files.

With this change users will be navigated out of the context of their search if no match is found in the first panel. Sometimes that will be what users want, other times not.

A compromise could be to interpret "Multiple Files" to mean "any source in any panel", and to extend Multiple Files to HTML panel. But searching on DOM and Net and Console will cause hits even if the string is not in source. I think this will surprise users who expect the search to be confined to source.
Summary: cross tabs search

I don't agree with John's suggestion to use the option "Multiple Files" for this. First of all not every content is related to a file, but this could also annoy people, that just want to search through all sources of one panel.

I imagine this to be an additional option "Search in other panels" inside the search options panel. Checking this option would then display a list of links to the other panels inside the search options panel like "4 matches in Console panel". This would then depend on issue 4879. Clicking one of the links switches to the appropriate panel and highlights the first match.
