issue 83 (Compression does not anti-alias images.) reported by montymintypie   -   What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Get an image with some pattern which will show lack of aliasing. 2. Check 'auto resize on upload' 3. Upload, and see results. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect to see pretty pictures. :-P I see 'jaggies' and moire patterns where there shouldn't be any. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 1.5.3 on WinXP Pro SP3. Please provide any additional information below. Examples have been attached, they were saved from Facebook after being uploaded. Img1: Look at the fence, power lines and railway lines. Img2: Look at the lines on the side of the railway carriage. BTW, love the issue template, makes it REALLY easy to do this.

FacebookOverview (Overview of the uploader for people coming from Facebook) Wiki page commented on by stiiixy   -   Hey thanks for this, mate. works fine for me on GNU/Linux (Ubuntu 9.10). Works a treat. Is there a way to sort the photo's so they upload in an order or we supposed to do this as we add them? =D Again, thanks. Saves a massive amount of time.

issue 82 (Horrific photo quality with new fb-photo-uploader 1.5.3) Status changed by phillip.sacre   -   After investigating this issue I have decided not to fix it. It seems that the Java image libraries are just not up to the task. It seems that the best option for photo resizing in Java is - use ImageMagick, or something similar. I think installing ImageMagick and getting it working with Java is too much for an app like this (you'd really need an installer to get it all set up properly). So for now it will remain unfixed. The workaround is to turn off "resize before upload" in the preferences. It will mean that the full size images get uploaded to Facebook, but at least the photos will be a decent quality. Obviously Facebook can run ImageMagick (or whatever tool they use) on the server side without these issues.

It just shows a DOS-windows which quickly disappears. I've tried running it as administrator and running it in compatibily mode, but with the same result.

issue 49 (Loading captions from metadata) Status changed by phillip.sacre   -   In reality this change is unlikely to be implemented as there seems to be no standard way of storing the image title. I will re-open if you can point me in the direction of the way most people do this.

issue 82 (Horrific photo quality with new fb-photo-uploader 1.5.3) reported by sum1akaj   -   What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Using the new fb-photo-uploader Steps that can avoid the problem 2. Using facebook's own simple photo uploader 3. Using facebook's own java photo uploader What is the expected output? What do you see instead? HORRIFIC Photo quality. Absolutely terrible. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Windows Vista, fb-photo-uploader 1.5.3 Please provide any additional information below. Compare the photo quality of this photo uploaded with fb-photo-uploader: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=48230080&l=888b798b91&id=1206899 With this photo uploaded with facebook's own app: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=48399700&l=3712df31bc&id=1206899 The difference is HORRENDOUS! I don't recall having this problem before, so I don't know if it's the new version of the photo uploader or something else. (the original photo is 4288 x 2848). Please try the photo out for yourself. Your app is very very useful and has been really great to use, but I can't use it after looking at the photos now.. Please feel free to follow up with any other questions.. Thanks for all your effort!

issue 81 (picture tag feature request) Labels changed by phillip.sacre   -   Hi It seems that Picasa do a similar thing to Facebook - tags are added to images based on percentage of width / height, not pixel values. Picasa stores them in hex values which is pretty standard for these kind of config files. There is one question I do have though. What "name" should be given to the tag, i.e. every Facebook tag must have a name (or a friend). I don't see any info in your examples which contains info about how the tag should be named! Otherwise this looks like it would be quite possible to do. Thanks, Phill

issue 81 (picture tag feature request) reported by hallwal   -   This is not a bug but a feature request, and maybe a long-shot, but it can't hurt to ask. :) Tons of picasa/facebook users are clamoring for the possibility of extracting picasa tag info to upload to facebook. I and others have discussed this at length with the author of a picasa plug-in, but he is convinced that it is impossible to do using a PLUG-IN, but maybe possible using a stand-alone application like yours. ** Your program would not need to interact with Picasa at all. It would simply need to read the .picasa.ini file in the current directory. ** I couldn't find any details on the picasa tag data, so I studied it myself for a while and figured out how the tag data is stored. I posted it on the plug-in authors page, but I will repost it here: ------ I just went and looked at my files, and it seems that the tag data is stored in a .ini file in each folder. So, each folder has one ini file containing all the tag info for the pics in that folder. Here are the first 2 lines from one of mine: [IMG_8842.JPG] faces=rect64(300000053d173a2),9f15d7bb85307f33 [IMG_8932.JPG] faces=rect64(5c001365882e5a2e),5b22b0ae7e71acf2;rect64 (85a200d9b3d14ae8),9f15d7bb85307f33 Anyways, the part in parentheses after the rect64 appears to be the location on the page, although I'm not sure how to decode it. The latter part in each pair appears to be the Unique Identifier. Notice how the UID in IMG_8842 is identical to the 2nd UID in IMG_8392. I can verify from the photos in question that these are in fact the same face. By the way, the lists seem to be in no order.. perhaps in the order I tagged them? ------- I decided to do some testing. I added a manual tag to the upper left corner of a pic and did not change the size or shape of the tag. This file had no tag previously, and sure enough, it showed up at the bottom of the ini file afterwards. I then reset the photo and did the same thing for other corners. The location data for the tag is below. [these are my comments] [upper left] faces=rect64(30004000) [lower left] faces=rect64(bfff3000ffff) [upper right] faces=rect64(cfff0000ffff4000) [lower right] faces=rect64(cfffbfffffffffff) -------- The order of the list is an annoyance but should be overcome by a lookup function, just match the filename.. I'm still trying to figure out the coordinate system, though, for where the tags are placed on the photo.. -------- Okay, I drew it on paper and plotted some points and finally managed to match up the data in a way that makes sense. It's fairly simple really. Each location is basically 16 characters long, but the leading 0's are dropped. Split them into groups of 4 characters. So my [upper left] example above is seen as 0000 0000 3000 4000. The (x,y) coordinates for this tag are the upper left corner at (0000,0000) and the bottom right corner at (3000,4000). In other words 1) If there are less than 16 characters, add 0's to the beginning. 2) If the picasa code is 0123456789ABCDEF, then the upper left corner of the face tag is at (0123,4567) and the lower right corner is at (89AB,CDEF) 3) The upper left corner of the photo is always (0000,0000) while the lower right is always (FFFF,FFFF). 4)The resolution of the photo doesn't matter. To the face tagging software, every photo is FFFF wide and FFFF tall, which equates to 65535 x 65535 (about 4,295 MP.. wow!) So, if your tag is in the center of the photo, the center of your tag would be at (32767,32767) which is (7FFF,7FFF). For example, the center of my [upper right] tag from my earlier post (cfff 0000 ffff 4000) is ((ffff- cfff),(4000-0000)) which comes to (3000,4000). It should be simple from there to convert that point into facebook coordinates to make a facebook tag. So, not saying the coding would be easy, but at least the logic is falling into place, so if this can be done, it would be so incredibly awesome!! I really think if you could do this, your publicity and interest in your app would skyrocket!! The main thing I guess is if your program can read the ini files? (They are called ".picasa.ini") What do you think? =)

FutureEnhancements (Ideas for Future Improvements and Enhancements) Wiki page commented on by mindsocket   -   Picasa 3.5 stores useful face tag metadata. It appears feasible to extract the face tags from a picasa.ini file and map it to facebook friends with matching names (after finding the name in Picasa's contacts.xml). Since picasa does so much of the hard work of face tagging, this could be an excellent addition, making the uploader into a truly killer app. I've just grabbed the source and have gleaned some other info about the face metadata, so might tackle this, or am happy to help out.

issue 80 (Browser does not open to Facebook login screen) Status changed by phillip.sacre   -   Is that the entirety of the log output? That's bizarre, it should come out with at least an error when it can't load the albums. According to a Sun bug database (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6486393) it looks like opening a browser window doesn't actually work in anything other than Gnome. Don't think there is much I can do about this :(
