FAQ
- I have heard about many ancestry sites. Do we need one more to that list?
Famree is an open-source project (that means FREE!!) allowing you to run your own family tree. It is highly customizable. It is a web based application with a rich user interface and not a desktop version. Plus, I haven’t come across any ancestry project that provides the exhaustive list of features provided by Famree.
- How can I build my family tree?
Famree takes a top-down approach. You start with the root of the family (example: your great grand-father) and work your way down. To add a member to the tree, the member’s parent or spouse must belong to the family tree.
- Can I add my spouse's parents' family details?
Not at present. The current version of Famree is intended for a single family.
- Who can add or update a family member?
To add or update information, you need to be a ‘Manager’ or ‘Administrator’. Obviously Administrators have more powers. Your site administrator can provide you necessary access.
- How can I keep informed about the upcoming events in the family?
You can subscribe to the RSS feed available below the Timeline chart.
- I have a suggestion/comment/criticism. How do I communicate?
You are my favorite person because you are willing to share your thoughts. Email me manohar.viswanathan@gmail.com
