EO, the evolution ontology, is intended to represent the evolutionary process, so that data objects describing evolution can be marked up and made accessible to semantic search tools.

It is a project of the Darwin Manuscripts Project, at http://darwin.amnh.org.

It will be used most immediately to mark up a database of bibliographic records of works about evolution, The Literature of Evolution, which aims to collect records and links to full text where available for every information resource about evolution and its precursors.

EO will be built in accord with requirements suggested by the OBO Foundryj in the interest of interoperability. EO's conceptualization is realist in spirit, in the sense of "realist" associated with the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO).
