Featured, Phase-Deploy
Updated Jun 21, 2011 by frederic...@gmail.com

Introduction

Templates are used to export your pencil file to a single HTML page, png files, doc, odt of pdf documents.

Step by step

1. open the pencil file you want to export

2. select Document > Export document ...

3. select the output format

4. select pages that you want to export (all / all except backgrounds / only selected pages)

5. finally, select the template you want to use from the drop-down list (you will retrieve your imported template in this list)and the destination folder

6. click on "Finish" button et voila !

I am currently unable to export to anything other then PNG using V1.3

Comment by k.sch...@gmail.com, Oct 7, 2011

Same for me, unable to export via the default pdf template. (1.3)

What is a template? How do I get a template and use them? where can I find documentation on this? I need to be able to export the multiple page into a single PDF document.

Thanks.

You could download the templates from the Downloads page. http://pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Downloads/Templates.aspx I can generate HTML files, but cannot generate PDF or other doc type files (with v1.2).

Hi, of course we can download templates, but when I add a new template in the "export template management" form, nothing happens. I click on "Install New Template...", choose any of the templates donwloaded on pencil.evolus.vn, click on "Open"... and nothing.

I only can export to PNG, nothing more. No PDF, no HTML.

Erratum : I manage to install templates on the plug-in version (v1.3.2 on FF9.01), but not on the stand-alone one (v1.3.2).

Furthermore I do not manage to export to PDF, Pencil says "no template has been installed for exporting to text documents", though I installed Simple Text Export Template (DefaultODTTemplate.zip), like the first comments.

I eventually managed to export vector data out from pencil to pdf with following steps:

  1. Install & run pencil 1.3.3 as FF plugin
  2. Export as SVG. The exported svg will contain references to pencil shapes and does not show correct for me in any app except firefox.
  3. Open that svg in firefox and print it via pdf printer to pdf.

I can confirm that galki...'s method to export to PDF works for me too! Thank you!

Can't download templates from http://pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Downloads/Templates.aspx.

Login failed for user 'cms'. Reason: The password of the account has expired.

I was able to generate a PDF on a Mac using standalone v 1.3.4 by using 'send to printer' and then using the Mac's native print dialog to "Save as PDF".

I tried the svg -> firefox method but it has all 3 of my pages on one truncated page...

Comment by matruthe...@gmail.com, Mar 9, 2012

anyone know how to prevent truncation? my document page width was 900px

Comment by nat...@littlebiglab.com, Mar 9, 2012

I also cannot use the native "Export document to pdf" function. A few lines and shapes show up, but thats about it. I was able to print to a 3rd party PDF printer (Bullzip) on Windows 7 and all of the vector objects came in fine, however, none of the Native UI Widgets show up. I ended up having to export to PNG and manually build the PDF, which works fine... but obviously it doesn't scale well as I'm just embedding images in a PDF. This needs to be fixed! Exporting a document to PDF is the #1 method of sharing wireframes with clients!

Comment by mair...@gmail.com, Apr 7, 2012

Hello,

I manually changed the width and height attributes in the <svg> tag of the exported svg and managed to avoid the truncation. Then using galki...'s method I managed to get a PDF file that can be opened in Inkscape.

Note that it might be that you have to export to SVG one page at a time in Pencil. I haven't tested exporting multiple pages yet.

Cheers!

Can we somehow export the wireframes as we can in inkscape or gimp using guillotine?
