About Emoticony, the Google Wave Robot
Featured
Updated Jun 11, 2010 by leedst...@gmail.com

Introduction

Emoticony is a Google Wave robot which replaces text characters with images.

Interacting With Emoticony

You can add Emoticony to any wave by adding emoticonbot@appspot.com

Emoticony, will only react when the corresponding text is found in an edited, or newly submitted blip after it becomes a participant. For this reason it is recommended Emoticony is one of the first participants you add. It is hoped in a later version, Emoticony will be able to go back through all content already present within the Wave when it is added.

Hi Lee, thanks for Emoticony! Did you know that all the Emoticony emoticons can be copy-pasted from a wave to another ? This way, you don't even have to add the robot as a participant and the robot doesn't appear as an editor of the blip... If I use the emoticons this way (without using your robots, just "stealing" its emoticons...), is it OK with you or does it matter ?

@jeremy.ngl That's fine to use them in that way and there's not much I can do about it really. It's probably not as quick as having emoticony convert the text characters, but feel free to do it that way.

Thanks Lee. In fact, I've pasted all the emoticons in a wave that is reduced above the others, when I need an emoticon all I have to do is to drop-down my emoticons wave and copy-paste the one I've chosen. It's quite fast and it as the advantage of giving me a visible choice. I'm french and I'm not sure my English is clear enough... I mean that seing all the emoticons makes it easier to chose which one I want to use. I was even considering making a small tutorial in a public wave to give this tip around. Would that still be OK with you or is it inappropriate ? Thanks a lot for your answer and for developing wave extensions, that rocks !

@jeremy.ngl Sounds like a good plan if it works for you. Feel free to create the tip in a public wave - I'm quite happy for people to pass on the word about Emoticony!

I added the email to my wave, but no go on the emoticons! Do you need to be in a specific user group to get it to work?
