Elastic Droid

Elastic Droid has a new website: http://eldroid.siddhuw.info. The Downloads, Wiki, and Issues section on Google Code will continue to be used.

Elastic Droid is a tool to view, monitor, and provision Amazon Web Services resources such as Amazon EC2 instances on an Android device. It is currently in part-time development.

The latest development release is v0.3, released at the end of Iteration 6. Click here to see the new features available. You could also download it, try it out, and help out by filing bug tickets.

To see the latest information on releases etc, please see the News page.

Why?

Amazon Web Service (AWS) adoption has grown rapidly over the 4 years it's been around. As have smartphones. It is important for an administrator to be able to keep track of the health of the instances he has running on the Cloud wherever he is - and the best way to do that is by way of a smartphone application.

We believe there is a gap in the market for an open source product wherever such an alternative is unavailable. As far as we are aware, there are no open source alternatives available in this niche.

Methodology and Project Progress

We are using the Agile development methodology for this project.

  • We are using Pivotal Tracker for managing our stories. Please take a look at our Pivotal Tracker project page here
  • We are using this Google Code website for issue tracking.
  • We are using the Google Code svn repository to store our code. Please click on the Source tab above to browse/checkout.

The team

The lead developer for this project is Siddhu Warrier. The other members of the development team are Galiia Warrier nee Khasanova (my lovely missus) and Rodolfo Cartas.

Our motivators

  • Because we believe in open source software.
  • Because we see it as a learning experience to learn more about Android app development and the AWS API.
  • Because we'd like to get proficient at the agile development methodology.
  • Because we hope to become better (and cleaner) coders.

Join our team

If you'd like to join us, please drop Siddhu an email at siddhu AT siddhuw DOT info. Thanks!!!!!
