Currently the primary repository is on Smaug. All working copies (Smaug and Ancalagon) are checked out from this one. It is synchronised to the one on Google Code periodically by a job on Smaug (every hour).

So we can only check in changes to Smaug; the Google Code one is read only.

Instead, the working copies should be checked out of Google Code. That one could be synchronised to a read only copy on Smaug (i.e. the reverse of current synchronisation scheme).

This would allow checking in from Ancalagon even when Smaug is offline. It would also allow direct web editing. Finally, I believe it would also provide automate issue updating based on commit logs.

Done. But all I've done is move the primary repository from one side of the Smaug-internet gulf to the other. I'm starting to wonder whether the downtime on Smaug's connection will hinder my Smaug-based development as much as it used to hinder my Ancalagon-based development.

Time to move to DVCS? Nah...
