Installing RRDTool

RRDTool is used to format data from any sort of source you can define, and saves the data in a database.

It comes from: http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/

If you have access to a package management system, you will probably be able to find rrdtool ready to go.

If you need to build it from source, the documentation with it in doc/rrdbuild.txt is excellent.

Most Commonly Required Libraries:

py-rrdtool doesn't work with the recently released RRDTool (1.2xx)

Installing the old RRDTool - Assuming all above libraries are in place

wget http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/pub/rrdtool-1.0.x/rrdtool-1.0.50.tar.gz
gunzip rrdtool-1.0.50.tar.gz
tar -vxf rrdtool-1.0.50.tar
cd rrdtool-1.0.50
./configure --prefix=/opt/rrdtool_1.0.50
gmake
gmake install

Linking py-rrdtool with rrdtool

CFLAGS=-I/opt/rrdtool_1.0.50/include
cd ~sarcher/py-rrdtool-0.2.1
python setup.py install
