GE 5.0 - /usr/lib32/libssl.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: EVP_camellia_128_cbc

Posted on Feb 2, 2009 by Swift Rhino
  1. Google Earth Version: 5.0.11337.1968

2. Operating System (Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Mac OS X 10.4.9, etc): GNU/Linux Gentoo 2008.0, keyworded ~amd64

3. Summary of issue (including error messages): When I start GE I see the splash screen and, for a second, the main window. Then it crashes with this error:

./googleearth-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib32/libssl.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: EVP_camellia_128_cbc

4. Links to other posts about this issue (please don't repost bugs):

5. Reproduction Steps: Install GE 5.0 beta and start it

6. What is the expected output or behavior? What do you see instead?

7. Workaround (if you've found one)

I'm having a similar issue when using Google Earth 5 on the amd64 version of Ubuntu 8.04.2:

./googleearth-bin: relocation error: /usr/lib32/i686/cmov/libssl.so.0.9.8: symbol BIO_test_flags, version OPENSSL_0.9.8 not defined in file libcrypto.so.0.9.8 with link time reference

I have the same error on SuSE 11.1, 64 bit:

./googleearth-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: EVP_camellia_128_cbc

http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/406756-google-earth.html "You just have to delete or rename /opt/google-erath/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 (path of a standard installation) to force google to use your opensuse library. And it works."
