E17 Module that display penguins aroud your desktop.

E17 Penguins Module

After 2 week of work on enlightenment modules here is the result: A brand new e17 module that display fancy penguins around your desktop. You can choose the number and the size of the penguins, and also change the population type. They walk over your windows, climb off the screen, fly and do some funny actions. The module is pratically a clone of the good’old XPenguins, it use pratically the same image format as xpenguins, thus themes can be easly converted from x to e penguins (and viceversa).

Download

The module is in the official enlightenment SVN. To get the latest version use the following command:

svn co http://svn.enlightenment.org/svn/e/trunk/E-MODULES-EXTRA/penguins

The lemmings theme is also included in the main package.

Install

To compile the module use the standard:

./autogen
make
make install

Downloaded themes must be placed in the directory that contain the default.edj theme.

    ~/.e/e/modules/epenguins/themes or
    <e_prefix>lib/modules/epenguins/themes

depending if you installed the module as root or as normal user.

Future plans

The penguins are really stupid now ;) I would like to implement some kind of AI to make the penguins do some more complex operation. Like interact eachother, notify the user any kind of information (ex: you have mail).

I also want to try e_phys to make penguins physic controlled

How to contribute

I’m not a designer so the first thing I really need is some cool themes. I will do some other from various ’sprite fan site’ over the net, but the legal utilization of this images is unclear, and this don’t permit me to put these themes in the main package.

If you make a new theme please email it to me.

I would be happy to have some original themes to include in the main distribution. I try to be more clear: “To: All the designers out there” “MSG: Please make some new original theme”

Your penguins have decreased my productivity by 35% on average. I hate you.

You cannot add characters, you need to do a separate theme, like the lemmings one. The module load all the themes found in the 'themes' directory.

Hope this will help you, if not please tell me how you have done your modification and I will try to be more accurate.

Bye

Hi frechdesign!

I suggest you to start from the default theme and modify it to sweet your need. Do you know how edje works? you just need to create a new edje object and put in the right dir.

If you need more info please don't esitate to ask :)

after using autogen, I get this: checking for E... configure: error: Package requirements (enlightenment) were not met:

No package 'enlightenment' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Where do I get the enlightenment package?

Hi drakmor2, sees you don't have installed e17 :/ Are you using enlightenent as your window manager? Is e17 installed in a standard plaace? or you need to adjust the PKG_CONFIG_PATH

hope this can help.

I fixed the error message by installing the e17 binary. Penguins shows up on the module list, so I click add and then I get an error saying something like "Module not found in module search directory. Would you like to remove this module?" I hit no, penguins doesnt start, and about 15 minutes later, e crashes. I tried installing e from source today using the package in kubuntu that does it for you, and I got a working e17 build (in /opt) that came with more modules such as itask-ng (which I also couldn't get working because of the module search directory thing). I tried installing penguins again, and I get the same error. If you didn't guess, I'm kinda a linux (especially e) newbie, so I also have no idea what the PKG_CONFIG_PATH stuff means either.... Thanks in advance.
