Ours is pretty old, so it needs an audit before the next release.

Shouldn't service file be a distro packager responsibility?

In my experience it's usually provided by the upstream package but my experience may be somewhat limited here. The packager can certainly patch or replace it as needed, so I don't think it hurts to provide it.
