As the title says, it fails to build on FreeBSD since there is no glibc.

I think this is expected although I don't recall exactly what makes diodmount linux specific (sorry no recent experience with BSD, and don't have one handy at the moment). There is ./configure --disable-diodmount, which was added by others working on one of the BSDs. Feel free to cut and paste some errors here if you feel there is something that we can easily address.
