muTurk
mechanical turk. Vapourware for now. In muTurk, you describe how sounds evolve in pitch, volume and timbre over time. muTurk then reads this description and renders as music (.wav or .mp3). Can transcribe and render any music. Why? Computer animators animate characters and props in very fine detail and render into a movie when they are happy. Look at Pixar's films. They can change the position of their characters or props 24 times a second. muTurk will let musicians change pitch, volume and timbre of sounds they create 44100 times a second. That is a lot of control but need not be frustrating. Can always work at larger time intervals - say 24 times a second like animators, 16, 8, 4 or even 2 times a second. Need not imitate timbre of any instrument. muTurk can be a Player piano on steroids. Totally control the volume of a note or notes in a chord over time! Like ImageSynth in MetaSynth. Maybe better. |
