Hacking The Recession

Location: Birkbeck College (WC1E 7HX), entrance off Torrington Square. Room 540.

Introduction

How can we use creativity + collaboration to beat the economic downturn?

Hey, how's the recession going for you? Feeling the squeeze yet? If not, do you feel prepared for whatever may come?

If you're old enough to remember the last recession, you know that we weren't lucky enough have many of the tools (Wikis, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, Delicious, etc.) or the communities that exist today. If you were on the street…you were on your own.

Does this downturn have to play out like the last?

If we can have a Web 2.0, why can't we have a Recession 2.0 — a collaborative effort to make this downturn different – better — than the last one? How can we band together as a community to survive and thrive until the next boom and beyond?

I was interviewed by Dougald on why people might want to get involved and what sort of things they could do.

Read Dougald's blog entry on Social Media vs the Recession and the update for more context.

Aha, have to wait for registration for Dev8D to be processed before they add you to the wiki. Can now edit :)

I want to attend Hacking the Recession - but I can't register for developer happiness days. It says it is full - but there only 4 names in the list above. Can anyone help me? Pam

Anyone who is just attending this day (and not the rest of dev8D) please just email developerhappinessdays@gmail.com to be added to the wiki. No need to sign up on the dev8D site if you are only attending this day. Please reference "Recession" in the email title.

Hi Mamading, Joseph, can't come saw this too late to make arrangements. Cclite made a lot of progress since the Limehouse days: http://www.hughbarnard.org/?q=node/3 including a fairly solid SMS interface and an experimental Debian package. More to come this year...if I can get a subdomain up, I'll post it here.

Also, I'm thinking about elgg for Tower Hamlets..

Ok I've put an instance of cclite up at: http://dhd.3wave.co.uk/cgi-bin/cclite.cgi you can log into a registry called 'dhd' as user 'manager', password 'manager' and create currencies..you can create new users etc. I'll remove this in a day or so..but all software and manual is on my website..enjoy, and, if you do, all comments are very useful...
