Installation
Installation & requirementsRequirementsThe Decode identity application has been developed with the popular, free & open source tool Processing, which itself is based on Java. For that reason, you'll need a recent version of Java installed in order to run the Decode application. Java version 5 or newer is required. Hardware requirements
InstallationMac OS XChecking the correct version of JavaOS X comes with different versions of Java pre-installed, however depending on your actual computer model and version of OSX, different default settings are in place and you should first confirm you're using the right ones. Unless you're already running Snow Leopard, you should also ensure you have actually updated to the latest version via the standard Software Update mechanism. Open Java Preferences in the Applications/Utilities folder and check that JavaSE 5 or JavaSE 6 is at the top of both lists. If not correct the order of preference using drag & drop... Alternatively, you can check which version is currently installed by opening Terminal and typing java -version The output should look something like this: java version "1.5xxx" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.5xxxx) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build xxxxx) Installation
Once running, go on and read the UserGuide to learn how everything works and can be tweaked... WindowsWindows does not come with Java pre-installed and unless you're confident that you have a recent version of Java installed, head over to java.sun.com and download & install the latest version (Java 6 Update 17 at the time of writing). Important: If you're planning to do any development work with this or any other Java project, download the JDK (Java Development Kit) version, else just get the JRE (Java Runtime Environment). You can check which version is currently installed like this:
The output should look something like this: java version "1.6xxx" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6xxxx) ... Installation
Once running, go on and read the UserGuide to learn how everything works and can be tweaked... TroubleshootingIf you can't get the app to run or encounter other unexpected behaviours, please do consult the FAQ page for further reference... |

I've downloaded the zip archives and have cloned the hg repos, but the libraries required by the run.bat file are missing from both.
Another completely hopeless set of instructions, so much work goes into creating something like this. This work is completely let down by pathetic instructions about how people can actually download and use it! I tried, and I failed, maybe it's me, but at least I tried.
@diccon Thank you very much for your friendly tone! Nice one! Instead, maybe it'd help to read the user guide a bit more? I've spent a long time writing it and maybe you're just struggling with using a wiki or this site? FWIW all available help pages are listed here: http://code.google.com/p/decode/w/list
@jbisso: The libraries are not being distributed with our project. You can find more info here in the Recode part of the guide:

i had no problem getting this to run :) nice job!
I'd like to have a go on ubuntu /fedora. Has anyone managed a linux install? It's Java so in theory very portable.
PS Would it be rude to point out the No.1 hardware requirement is Mac OSX or Windows? Ah-hem! Neither of which are hardware. I hope not.
you're just looking for publicity for yourself
not wish to trade anything with anyone
your application is exactly what you are
something that is jerky
Good to know the trolls have finally found this project and are ready for business! You obviously are upset about something other than this project, so why don't you come out of your cloak and engage properly?
Comments like yours are exactly what you are something that is jerky
