OverviewContactDiscoverer was written by David X Wang with assistance from Grant Patterson and Alan McNatty as part of the Victoria University of Wellington "Summer of Tech" programme in 2010/11. Contact Discoverer provides the ability to: - discover or "look-up" unknown contacts
- maintain (sync) known contacts to keep them updated, adding/removing contacts as required
- automatic merging of contacts based on their name or phone number
- plug-ins may also offer a one-time (sync-all) discovery option.
- support multiple technologies to offer a all-in-one contact sync solution
Built-in features include - LDAP plug-in
- QR code auto-configuration of plug-in settings
- initial work towards a plug-in frame-work - with developer guide for writing your own plug-ins
Contacts are related to the Contact Discoverer plug-in account - if you want to delete them simply remove the plug-in account. Manage what contacts are visible by device contacts 'Display options' Future Plugins Scheduled for InclusionThis project site will provide details on how to write a plugin to work within the Contact Discoverer framework. Other plug-ins schedule for inclusion include: - ENUM
- Adhoc (Postgres / CouchDB) query
- A demonstration XML based API
Contact Discoverer has come out of the work behind ENUMDiscoverer, a PoC caller-identification and social profile tool. With the success of ENUMDiscoverer there was scope to widen the supported 'look-up' technologies and provide better support for Android 2.x devices. Limitations- Currently the LDAPSync plug-in only supports a single account.
- Certains features of Contact Discoverer may not be available due to a non-native Contacts Application on the phone.
