Frequently Asked Questions about CGL
Q: How do I get my game information into CGL? A: Create a gameinfo.xml file in your game folder as detailed on this page Q: I found a bug. What should I do? A: Submit it on the issues page Q: <INSERT NAME HERE> just says 'No gameinfo.xml provided'. What is going on? A: The authors did not include info for CGL in their game package. Let them know that they should be! Q: How do I run a game that doesn't have a gameinfo.xml file? A: If a game doesn't have a gameinfo.xml or doesn't specify it's starting file, pressing play will open a file dialog where you select which file to run. Check the readme tab to see if the authors put instructions on which file to run. Otherwise, make your best guess (.exes are good on Windows, and anything like run_game, main, play, or the game name). Q: What is the 'compo' part about? A: 'Compo' is short for competition. CGL's primary purpose is for playing all the games resulting in online game development competitions. Often you download a torrent filled with zipped up games and have to unzip, look at readme, play, find judge screen, and vote on each game. CGL can play games straight from the zip files, shows the readme, runs the game with one button, and has a link to the games specific judge screen. Additionally, it keeps track of which games you've played already so you don't accidentally miss any (or duplicate and waste your time). Q: Will CGL download dependencies for me? A: After some deliberation, it was decided that CGL will NOT download dependencies. Authors can specify the links to dependencies you might need, and CGL can test python dependencies, but installing things on your system is ultimately up to you. |
